I suspect it’s part of meno @Bangersndmash. The Crash memo is just that it happens in one go rather than staggered out and you can’t take any of the usual treatment for menopause. So, hot flushes, periods stopping - basically all the stuff you have heard about for memo. I’d started it but now I’m having it again. Great. Except the periods. Luckily they haven’t restarted.

I’m sorry about the IVF. Were they telling you you could postpone treatment by 9 months to allow for a pregnancy? That must be a good sign.

The hot flushes in the night are a total git! I don’t have such a problem with them during the day. My sister is permanently attached to her hand fan and sits outside a lot!

No, they said I could freeze my eggs for IVF for a later date, not wait 9 months for pregnancy. I was advised not to wait, even for the egg retrieval and embryo freezing etc as that can take 6-8 weeks.

If I can live a long life with my two little ones then I will be thankful and blessed. It’s just not what I had planned, sadly. Yes I think you’re right, I think I’m going through menopause. As well as everything else. You have to laugh or you cry don’t you!

Hi all. Just checking in. I’m still in the “phony war” stage. Immunotherapy starts on Monday, and no idea how I’ll react. I have a long list of scary possible side effects, but know that most people are fine with it. And I am currently fit and healthy (I mean, apart from the melanoma mets!!)

Last time I had immunotherapy they only gave me 3 doses because it caused very bad liver toxicity- but that was as an adjuvant treatment so it wasn’t too big a deal when I stopped. I keep telling myself “there will always be a plan” but it’s not always convincing!

Sorry - just needed a little vent!

Hi, I am also on immuno and chemo. What one did you have? Are you trying next? Fingers crossed it works for you!

What type of BC do you have, do you mind me asking?

Onewildandpreciouslife · 28/01/2026 13:25

Hi @Bangersndmash - I have melanoma, not BC. I had Pembrolizumab before - going to start nivolumab - relatlimab next week

Oh sorry my mistake. I am on pembro. Hope the immuno works for u. Did you have any other side affects with it?

Onewildandpreciouslife · 28/01/2026 14:47

No problem @Bangersndmash

cantbelieveIamhere · 28/01/2026 15:31

@Onewildandpreciouslife good luck for Monday with your immunotherapy, yes the side effects of most of these treatments are grim.
Hopefully you wont have too many side effects to deal with.

I’m sorry I don’t really know much about it all. Would you mind me asking what is the crash meno? I try and stay away from google as it’s terrifying.

i am in my 30’s, my periods were regular and i was sadly going to start growing my family again until I found the lumps and bumps. I was approved for IVF pre chemo but doctor suggested not to wait as it was looking like 6-8 week delay of chemo and I have an aggressive and fast growing one so we made the desicion to not hold anything up and start. I now think I’m going into menopause or atleast something crazy is happening, my periods stopped about 8 weeks into chemo. I’ve had non stop hot flushes all night (JUST in the night) I have to strip bare sweating. I assume, sadly, that this is the start of the menopause.

Yep that sounds like menopause. Talk to the dr anyway though
I had a ‘crash’ menopause like that.( It’s just our way of saying overnight menopause,) it’s not like when you are eased into it gradually the natural way as you get older it just happens all of a sudden cos of chemo. I was around your age (35) for my first BC and went into sudden menopause too . It was like you describe terrible hot flushes, feeling all hot (then cold etc) . I actually had injections after chemo to induce menopause for a while but when they stopped periods came back ( I was about 40 )and went on for ten years. The second menopause was much easier !!
I think I have feral hormones hence my three hormonal breast cancers 👀

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 28/01/2026 16:31

Good news over here this afternoon - score was 13 so no chemo needed!

Ventress · 28/01/2026 17:29

My friend asked me to be her baby’s godmother. I cried. Should I say yes? I am life limited so I’m tempted to say to my friend to have at least two godmothers. I don’t want to leave this gorgeous little baby without a godmother ❤️

How beautiful. Made me well up. If I was you, I would absolutely say yes.

Ventress · 28/01/2026 17:36

Good news @ohdoriswheresthesalad! And thank you @Nonamelass your explanation is much better than mine 😊 horrible feral hormones!

Ah, my misunderstanding @Bangersndmash. You will have an amazing life with your two little ones. I would ask your oncologist about the menopause. I think you can have a blood test to check your hormone levels and check menopause status.

Ventress · 28/01/2026 17:44

Thank you @Bangersndmash. I would love to be there for this gorgeous baby. But I’m worried enough about being there for DS and he’s 18! I will contact my friend this evening I think.

Sbmpp · 28/01/2026 17:46

@ohdoriswheresthesalad I also focus on the negative. If it wasn’t for my husband I wouldn’t remember a thing. He’s sharp as a tack. (At the moment I’m a bit concerned..seemingly overnight he is extremely hard of hearing. To the point that I (or anyone else) have to yell for him to hear). Btw, I love your name 🥰.

I am a die hard Gavin and Stacey fan!
my mum was like that overnight and turned out she had glue ear!

Sbmpp · 28/01/2026 18:45

@Ventress I’m here at the new (to me) infusion center. It’s one big room with chairs in a row (as opposed to private rooms). No TVs but the chairs are the same: heated with vibration 🥰. I agree about the organization. (or lack of). My dh just retired from this healthcare organization. He started as a lowly worker, earned an advanced degree and then became an administrator. He’s worked both sides of caregiving including being a union rep. and working to provide pt. care during strikes. He said they had plenty of time to organize patient care. I remember reading about the drs strike and the reasons who, why, where etc. I hope everything is settled? My nurse here is lovely. It’s very quiet and I guess one can say it’s peaceful although I never feel peaceful while receiving this darn stuff. The pt next chair to me is getting his last dose. He doesn’t want to ring the bell. I haven’t either. Actually I’m feeling overwhelmed 😵‍💫. Add to my emoji of frazzled eyes picture very short hair standing on end 😝. My dh just showed me something that’s posted on IG pertaining to what the strikers are asking for. The southern part of the state wants to make as much the northern part: $15.00 an hr more ($180,000/year as opposed to $140,000. )If I was still working you better believe I’d be working as much as possible!!!!! Sorry this was so long. Anxiety on my part. I hope you all had a great day.

Holding your hand from afar xxx Are you anxious because it’s somewhere you aren’t used to? Or the strike? That certainly is a very good Nursing salary, I don’t think they get anywhere near that in rhe UK or France , how muh longer before you can go home? Big hugs xx

Sbmpp · 28/01/2026 19:03

@Ventress Oh say yes ♥️♥️♥️♥️. What a lovely gift. I am sure your friend is asking out of a heart full of love.

Haha gavin and stacey… you have to look for it and watch it. It’s a British comedy serires about a young couple and their friends and family. It’s very very funny ( imo) you need to find it @Sbmpp . I’m not sure about glue ear I think it’s when your ear is infected and sticky xx

Haaahahhaa Gavin and Stacey is a tv show, iPlayer. Started 2008 and ended 2024 with a Xmas special!

Glue ear is when thick, sticky fluid builds up behind the eardrum, usually after colds or ear infections, and stops sound from travelling properly. It’s can cause temporary hearing loss (which happened to my mum she genuinely thought she’d gone deaf over night) and muffled sounds. She had some kind of balloon thingy for her nose but needs gromits but refuses to have them now 🤦‍♀️

Had a difficult week with a series of post op complications following surgical procedures for eye cancer which required me to go back to in 3 times with threat of futher surgeries and / or delaying my scheduled proton beam radiation treatment. Thankfully issues are resolving without need for any intervention. I think if my treatment was postponed my head would explode 🤯 anyway…..all been very emotionally discombobulating - you can tell I’m a rookie here. Hasn’t even considered that! Need to build in more mental capacity for the unexpected on top of the uncertainty.
