It wasn't ovarian, it was lymphoma

My original thread is nearly full, hence starting this one.

I knew I probably had cancer in late July 2025 but it took until the end of August to get a definitive diagnosis: Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma, Stage 4.

I have had six rounds of chemo, the last of which was on 12 December. Had a lot of nausea and vomiting, plus an infection which left me hospitalised on oxygen and IV antibiotics for a while. I am extremely weak now, and waiting to find out whether the cancer is still active. (A scan at the half way point showed it was.)

Obviously things will be very different in 2026 and go one of two ways, depending on the scan result, which I will find out on Friday 16th January.

(Not sure why that takes you to the middle of the thread; sorry.)

That is wonderful news re your scan results 🪻🌷🪻

Amazing news on the pet scan. You must be relieved. Do you still feel the lump you found and was worried about? I'm so happy for you!

Mischance · 16/03/2026 19:29

Ooh .... that's good news about the scan.

My PET scan result is excellent - no new tumours and the existing one has shrunk a lot from the radiotherapy. All very promising for the CAR-T as a low tumour load correlates with more successful outcomes and less side effects.

Brilliant,so pleased for you

Yes, the lump is still there but, annoyingly, I had trouble finding it when laid on the couch with the doctor palpating my abdomen. It seems really prominent right now.

Anyway, if it was a lymphoma, it would have shown up on the scan.

One of the Aleta research team rang me this afternoon to say they need to run some tests on me before I start the chemo, so please can I go to Leeds for them tomorrow? I'm quite proud of myself for assertively saying no, I'm not prepared to do that, but I can come in earlier on Thursday so you can do the tests before my chemo, if that works for you. He decided that that would indeed work for him.

One of the tests he mentioned was an ECG, but I had one on Monday and I doubt that my heart function has changed much since then.

I was also assertive (stroppy?) on Monday because I was told I needed to have bloods taken (which I had expected) but when I saw the phlebotomist, he said that he wasn't qualified to use a PICC line so would just have to find another vein and do it as usual. I refused and said, I've gone to the time, trouble and pain of having this put in, and there's no way you're using another vein. There must be someone else on the unit who can use a PICC line. Of course there was, and the nurse who did my pre-assessment obs took the blood as well.

Ohjoyohbliss · 18/03/2026 10:45

From my previous post, you can tell that I am feeling well. Physically, and the scan result has given me a huge mental boost.

DH brought my breakfast up (as he does every day) and said "I don't know why I'm doing this; you're perfectly capable of getting your own breakfast."

He's not wrong, but who wouldn't have breakfast in bed, if it was on offer?

Also another vote to say take it while you can! And keep celebrating. I'm so happy for your good news x

Last day of freedom today and gorgeous weather* so we had a little trip out, and this evening I've risked a Chinese takeaway.

Sunday will be my last full day at home. At my appointment on Monday I asked how quickly the lymphodepletion works and if I could go out on Sunday. Both the doctor and the nurse (in the same appointment) said "You probably won't feel up to it." So I'm expecting to feel rough after the chemo.

  • I wish the weather had been like this when we had our night away last week. Instead, on Thursday, the wind was so strong, we could barely stand upright. Plus I had a dodgy tummy so we cut it short and were home by about 2pm.

I've had the bloods taken for the Aleta trial. I'm likely to receive the ALETA-001 three weeks today but will have some more tests done on the ward before that.

I'm the only Leeds patient on the Aleta trial currently. There was one in the earlier phase, but that has finished now. (The phase of giving Aleta after the one month scan showed ongoing activity.)

Now I'm waiting for the first chemo.
