DD had three core biopsies of lymph nodes up from breast to axilla - initial results look reactive but a node now needs to be examined as sample not big enough for complex testing?

DD found a lump in her breast. On ultrasound string of nodes enlarged from breast to axilla. Three core biopsies sent for testing. Ten days later - the consultant rang to say first report says it looks reactive but final report not yet done. Rang again today and a node needs to be excised to answer the question? Anyone any experience of this? DD is 21 and was treated for ALL as a 2 year old.

Any support or experiences appreciated. Not sure what to think now. Obviously, we are back to being pretty scared.

I’m not sure why no one is answering but anything would be helpful?

Honestly it simply means there wasn't enough material for the test so they need more

They won't report as reactive until they have got enough to look at.

Reactive simply means inflamed/enlarged/doing something funny, not necessarily cancer. That’s why they need the biopsy.

For example, I had 63 lymph nodes removed during surgery, 15 of them were reactive, but only 1 had cancer in it.

We can get a response in lymph nodes when something is going on nearby and the body’s immune system is responding to protect us. It doesn’t mean it’s cancer, though of course, it could be.
