Ultrasound found lesion on ovary & increased vascularity - what are next steps and what should I be preferred for??

Having one of those years!!!

i always have raised CA levels so whenever I go for bloods they end up sending me for an ultrasound to check for any abnormalities. This last happened in October last year.

this year after some IBS symptoms bloods again came back with raised CA (around 50) and I was sent for an ultrasound.

i went in assuming all would be fine but the sonographer found a lesion on one ovary and increased vascularity. I’ve been fast tracked to a gynaecologist, with my appointment just five days after the ultrasound which was on Wednesday.

trying to prepare myself for what’s likely at this appointment- MRI / biopsy? / surgery . Am guessing they won’t be able to confirm or deny that it’s ovarian cancer at the appointment.

and while I’m trying not to fear the worst the combo of the change to my ovary and increased vascularity seems to point to the worst.

can anyone give me any advice of what is likely to happen next, any good questions to ask at my next appointment and any reflections from your own experiences of all this? Good and bad?!

I have had an exhausting and difficult year as three of my four children have additional needs and I feel very fragile for this and coping with it all!

thank you xx

Thanks for the info! I think as you had your normal ultrasound previously even if this IS anything, the likelihood is it’s been caught very early. I’m sorry you’re going through this though and I hope it turns out to be benign.

Thank you @Defrostedmariahcarey - appreciate your message! Yes I am trying to hardest to hold onto the positives even in the worse case scenario! Wasn’t sure how quickly something could have spread in a year though but fingers crossed x

I also think that this is unlikely (not impossible) to be anything sinister. The threshold for a 2ww referral is a 2% risk of cancer - I.e. 98% chance that it is not.
There a few slightly off things - a very slightly elevated ca125 and scan finding - which is what has has triggered the referral, but there is nothing screaming cancer.
i Hope things go well.

@khaa2091 thanks so much! I was literally planning my funeral today! I’m not worried about the CA being raised as it’s been raised forever. More the increased vascularity of the mass. Keep your fingers crossed for me x

Just a quick update to all of you who so kindly provided support to me. I had the appointment with the gynaecologist just before Xmas and they were a bit reassuring but did want to do an MrI to get a better look at the growth. I had that on NYE and waiting for the follow up to discuss results next week. Still feeling anxious about it but trying not to worry too much! Thanks to you all for offering virtual advice and support
