Sick of cancer adverts

As the title says, I’m sick of them.
I have a rare and aggressive second cancer ( first is metastic breast). My treatment lines are limited. There has been little research and funds ploughed into my cancer. I will likely die from it at some point. My colleagues treat me as though I have bubonic plague and my oldest school friend ignores me now. My brother couldn’t give a flying fuck. I find because it’s not one of the more
“ well known “ cancers, that has good outcomes, where people thrive (like in the ads) people don’t want to know. The ads are misleading and not a true representation of the reality of living with cancer. It is a lonely experience, living with a rare and aggressive type. People don’t get it.

Sorry to hear that, OP. I don't have cancer, but I have a couple of serious chronic illnesses. I really think that many people struggle with sickness that doesn't follow the illness-treatment-recovery pattern. They don't know how to help and they find it depressing. Are you able to get support from e.g. Macmillan? Best wishes.

It's the same as Xmas adverts - it's not representative, because an advert's job is to sell a dream, not the reality that people actually live through. Noone is going to spend money on something that looks miserable. You have enough going on, don't let this add to your woes x

You are right and I agree. It’s just maddening. But yes, my sole aim is to stay alive for as long as possible. Thankyou x

I hadn’t thought of whole illness, treatment and recovery narrative, but that makes perfect sense.

Sorry you have chronic illness too. It sucks doesn’t it?

I have to say I hate most of the the dementia ones too, my mum has it and they are so far from reality or so heart wrenching I could scream. Sending you best wishes .

Ah I’m sorry you find the dementia ads gut wrenching too. I suppose as a PP mentioned, no one wants to see or hear sadness and pain. Well why should people be protected from seeing this? Dementia is prevalent and 1/2 of us are meant to get cancer? Or is it affected by it? Either way, these ads are rubbish and very far removed from the reality.

Hugs x

The thing is am I not actually convinced that they are always centred on how the actual people with the illness feel watching them. Years ago with my first BC a a young mum there was one with a mother and child looking into a mirror, then the mum disappeared and it was only the child . It was heartwrenching to watch as a mum with cancer ( or for a child of an age to understand) and just turned the knife,l I think it’s the same for people who have the beginning of dementia and don’t need to see sad adverts pop up randomly on TV ( the funeral one for example) I don’t actually live in the UK now so don’t see them as often though. Hugs to you too ;)

DB has cancer and I agree, that the adverts are horrible. We'll likely lose him to it and it's so heartbreaking.

I'm no so fussed about the dementia ads, even though my DF has dementia. He's just not the person he was and doesn't know that DB has cancer.

Life can be tough.

Sorry OP...I get it.
