Oral surgery

Hi,

My dad went to the dentist in the summer and whilst he was there the dentist noticed what she thought was an ulcer in his mouth.

He went back to the dentist on Friday last week (not sure if this was to check on the 'ulcer' or for something else, as dad is very vague on the details). Anyway, it's not an ulcer, it's a white patch. The dentist said it could potentially be cancerous and that he needed to go to the dental hospital.

The hospital has called today and he has an appointment for 9am tomorrow for oral surgery.
I'm concerned that the fact he is being seen so quickly means it's more likely to be something sinister?
Does anyone have any experience of this? Is it normal to be seen so quickly? Maybe I'm overthinking?

Thanks in advance!

I would see it as a good thing. I assume if the dentist thought it could be cancerous, she referred him under the 2 week pathway. When I was referred, I was seen 4 days later, so this sounds about right.

As it’s just a small spot, my guess is they will remove it and send for biopsy. No sense bringing him in to look at it and bringing him back again to take it off. They sound really efficient, which is a good thing. I wouldn’t read into it any more than that. It will still be a wait for results (I’d guess 4-8 weeks or so), so it’s good they’re just getting going.

if it’s small they will remove it then check it for histology. I suspect they had a cancellation so no point waiting
