High B12 - Worried.

I’ve attached my B12 results from 15 months ago, no one told me about this - I’ve just seen.

I don’t take any supplements.

I’ve googled and it’s told me all sorts of scary things, solid tumours, blood cancers, liver / kidney diseases.

the rest of my blood test results were perfect, which included by liver function etc

and 2 months after this blood test, I had an abdominal CT scan in a&e due to pains which flagged up I had severe appendicitis. ( I am assuming my other organs liver etc were visable too as it was abdominal scan )

I am unsure why it is so high when I don’t supplement & it was 836 a 6 months prior when I was pregnant 🙃 so it raised.

ive got a doctors appointment to discuss, next available isn’t until Thursday & I guess I was just looking for some advice in the meantime,

has anyone had high b12 with no supplements and all been ok?

Did you have a repeat test two months later like they suggested in the results?

No because the GP signed it off as ‘dealt with’ and I’ve not had any communication from them, I’ve only just got access to my app and seen it and my heart has sunk, Google has terrified me!

No advice, but great that you’ve got an appointment on Thursday. I would hope they’d be able to do bloods quickly and get results back quickly as well if you can get an appointment. If no appointments at GP, some hospitals provide a walk in service if you bring the paper slip from the GP. Alternatively, you can get it done privately, but I wouldn’t think it would be faster.

How are you feeling now? Do you take anything at all? Protein shakes or collagen drinks or anything of that sort? B12 is one that you are advised to stop supplements before blood tests as can show up abnormally high, but sometimes they hide it in things you wouldn’t expect, like a breakfast shake or some nails/skin powder drink stuff.

If this was 15 months ago I feel you’d know by now if you had something like leukaemia. Are you on any medications? Were you unwell when they did the test?

I had really high b12 like that but all other ones through the floor. Doctor wasn't concerned about it even though everything else was way too low. I'd imagine you're ok but if it's going to keep playing on your mind get another blood test done

saw doctor today, he looked at me like ???? Your bloods are fine, B12 slightly high but nothing that doesn’t just indicate a healthy diet & he’s been a doctor that has been around for years and has probably seen these results on people 100s of times.

he didn’t even suggest a further blood test, he said ‘if you’re symptomless and healthy, 15 months on… it’s not worth worrying about’ 🤷🏻‍♀️
