Called back to the breast clinic.

I've had a long term problem with my nipple, many trips to the GP finally resulted in a referral to the breast clinic. I went to the breast clinic last Friday and they took a biopsy, Dr said he wasn't worried and that a telephone call appointment would be fine which is booked for the 10th October. I just got a call from the nurse asking me to return on Monday for a face to face appointment. Is there any way this isn't bad news?

It's been one hell of a year, with my dad passing away, my friend ending her life horrifically and gosh this may just tip me over the edge!

I got called back after a needle biopsy was ruled to have collected insufficient cells. It must be quite common because the second one also failed to pick up enough cells. At which point they gave up, saying, well the cells we did get were okay... Both times I was seen by the consultant, who clearly wanted to explain it all to me himself. I think he wanted me to understand and be happy with what they were doing/not doing.

It’s difficult to say, but I would assume that yes they either need to discuss the results or need further investigation (another biopsy or ultrasound or something).

The good thing is it’s soon and you know and can prepare. I was bundled into a side room by nurses when I was in hospital for another appointment. They literally tracked me down as soon as the biopsy results came back. I had literally no time to prepare. One minute I was getting a dressing changed and the next there were 3 nurses and tissues and a big folder of information and I got sent off for blood tests and someone else was in and out trying to book my CT and MRI scans. It was a lot.

Try not to catastrophise, but I would go with questions prepared just in case. Even if those questions are simply about the next steps and how you will be notified about results.
