Ultrasound and mammogram timing - just got lucky or consultant has concerns?

Went to GP last Thursday with 3m history of itching and then developing pain and swelling but no lump.

Seen by consultant yesterday who did a thorough exam, agreed no lump but some “thickening” which he said he was worried about but he would refer me for ultrasound and mammogram anyway. He said it would be 7 -10 days.

Just had a voicemail to say they can fit me in first thing Saturday morning which was sooner than expected. Just wondering if anyone had any experience and thought this might mean consultant was more concerned than letting on, or if it’s just the hospital are keen to fill spaces?

many thanks x

Totally normal - all of these are referred as 2WW regardless of level of concern and it's great your local hospital is so efficient.

I would suspect that they're making sure all the slots available are filled - could be a cancellation or maybe an extra clinic.
On the bright side, less time waiting anxiously.
Some parts of the NHS don't have long wait lists.

Thank you both that’s very reassuring.

OP, how did you get on?

clinics are being made available more and more often, and anything on the USC (it’s not called 2WW anymore because that’s misleading), is the highest priority, so you’ll be offered whatever slot is next x

It was just thicker tissue- told there and then thankfully! Thank you for asking
