I’m on the 2 week pathway

I don’t even know if this is the right place to post this.

im on the 2 week pathway - urgent referral for potential issues with left ovary.

I’ve had unexplained bleeding since fucking January and my gp wouldn’t see me - saw me last week and has done the referral.

im feeling very nauseous and bloated and I actually vomited today.

and I’m frightened. My mum had pancreatic cancer and my best friend had ovarian and she died of it.

dr Google is not my friend and I’m trying not to.

can anyone reassure me it’s likely nothing and I shouldn’t be posting here? And if not here then is there somewhere better ?

I’m really sorry. I can imagine how scary it feels. It’s so hard to stay rational until they do more tests and they actually know what it is. I hope you get tests and everything quickly. Have you people around you for support?
(sorry I can’t say anything very useful)

I had unexplained bleeding and was put on the 2 weeks pathway for suspected cancer. My doctor explained to me that this is normal for this type of thing and doesn’t necessarily mean you have suspected cancer, it’s just unfortunate wording for the referral. I hope everything is ok for you, just be glad you are being seen quickly. Sending your supportive hugs.

Thank you so much for replying. I am so lost with what to do until I get more tests done. Thank you again

Thank you so much.

I have left ovary pain. And bloating and nausea. And I’ve been sick today 3 times.

I don’t even know what I expected.

im posting and titting about on here as a distraction. My OH has an early start tomorrow as he had a worrying phone call with his mother earlier who is 92 and she was a bit weird with him so he’s heading off early to go see her. So he’s asleep already and I am sitting on my hands not to google.

Have you already had a scan on your pelvis & ovaries or is this part of your referral? Has the GP done any bloods? I hope you get an appointment soon as on the 2 week wait they do tend to do any required procedures on the day.

2weekpathwayandscared · 26/08/2025 16:32

No the scan is happening on the day as far as I understand it.

It IS likely to be nothing. I've been on the 2 week pathway twice in the last 18 months due to gynae issues which are now sorted. It's a quick way to rule cancer out - that's it. If they find it they'll move super-quickly, which is reassuring in itself, and if not, it's on your GPs radar to do something about what's actually wrong. My GP estimated that less than 5% of people on the pathway actually had cancer, and in those cases, a lot were captured very very early.

niadainud · 26/08/2025 16:36

I'm not sure whether this is helpful as it might not be a sufficiently similar situation to yours, but I've had exactly the same issue twice with unexplained bleeding. The second time I was referred to oncology and the only difference was that I was a few years older (so over 50). The symptoms, diagnosis and treatment were the same, but I was put on a different pathway because of my age.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 26/08/2025 16:39

I'm so sorry, OP. I know how scary it is.

If it's any comfort, I've been on the 2-week pathway twice, and it wasn't cancer on either occasion.

I hope you feel better soon and that it doesn't turn out to be as bad as you think it's going to be.

The thing that sometimes makes you panic is the speed at which they work sometimes. I had to go to the GP for an internal, then back for a blood test, then two different ultrasounds, and also a smear. Then I got letters about appointments, text reminders about appointments, sometimes phone calls, and on one day I got a letter through the post, a text, then a taxi driver with a hand delivered letter,. for a scan the following day as things were being held up with Xmas post, and finally a call from the specialist's receptionist! It was almost comical but did make me very nervous. I'm sure you'll be fine, and in my cases I got the results very quickly too.

I just had the news that my biopsy was all clear today (intermittent and irregular bleeding on a suspected cancer pathway) - I have found the whole thing very stressful and felt sick with worry at times but it’s turned out to just be hormonal issues. I hope you get the same good news.

YouOKHun · 26/08/2025 17:22

I too have been on the two week pathway for post menopausal bleeding. It feels like a worrying development, the sudden acceleration of action but it isn’t necessarily a sign of something serious. I must say that I am really thankful the pathway exists, staffed by people who are scanning, interpreting and treating this kind of thing all the time. In my case they needed to do a Hysteroscopy as the scan showed something that needed a biopsy. It was nothing serious in the end.

Try not to refer to Dr Google, it will often deliver the worst case scenario based on subjective search criteria done while panicking. Often the stats and information isn’t reliable or up to date and if you’re not medically qualified it’s easy to take the information and run in the wrong direction with it. When I went for my scan they were really nice and happy to answer questions. Good luck @2weekpathwayandscared

@2weekpathwayandscared

try not to panic 🤗

as per many posters above, my friend has been on the pathway twice for unexplained bleeding. Neither time it was cancer. The number of actual cancer situations in this pathway is very very low (fortunately).

oh & Dr Google is a bastard! Definitely avoid his bs!!
xx

I’m in a similar situation @2weekpathwayandscared

I’ve had an ultrasound (last week) and a blood test today so I’m now waiting to hear what’s next.

I have done loads of Googling. Mostly unhelpful but sometimes you learn something!
Wishing you all the best. Not knowing is very hard to deal with.
