Hi, I am writing to get information about Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia, a form of lymphatic cancer. My dad had a bone marrow biopsy, blood tests and an MRI scan(this came back normal)
My dad, 84 was diagnosed with this low grade B cell lymphoprolifirative disorder based on a low red blood cell count of 109. He is anemic as it should be 135. The hospital specialist has put him on a special high iron diet and he has to visit the hospital in 3 months for another blood test. He has a lot of brain fog and gets very tired. He has got pins and needles in his feet and hands and is suffering from the cold more than normal. They are going on a cruise next year and the doctor said he is fine to do this. I am worried about him getting infections and travelling 10 hours on the plane! If his bloods don’t improve then they have recommended a blood transfusion in 6 months time.
He is a typical kiwi. He chops wood, collects mussels, plays golf/bowls.
I’m wondering if anyone else is going through this. I am stressed as it is a cancer diagnosis after all but I’m sure there are more serious cancers out there.
