36 year old female, 2 young dc. Clean bill of health until last year.
Started getting severe bruising on my legs last summer,.accompanied by a petechiae rash on my forearms and roof of mouth. Also lost 10% of my body weight (now 9st 8 and 5ft 5).
Had 3 months of tests / scans under NHS haematology plus private medical which showed nothing, despite some very odd blood results which eventually resolved. All symptoms stopped in September 2024
December 2024 I notice a swollen lymphnode In my groin. Go to gp,.FBC is normal. She documents my swollen lymphnode and that's that.
6 weeks ago I start waking at night boiling hot. Not sweating through sheets,. But just absolutely roasting which is out of character. I then notice swollen lymphnodes in my neck which reminds me to check my groin and these have grown too.
Go to gp who orders bloods.
Bloods came back yesterday
Elevated LDH (400)
Elevated IgA and IgM
Elevated lymphocytes
Elevated TIBC
Elevated serum ALT
Low iron

Got a call from hospital this morning, being rushed through for bloods at 7.50am tomorrow. Full body ct scan Friday and meet consultant next week

Cannot stop crying. How bad is this... genuinely. Is there anything else that could cause this?
I'm a need to know person... and I just want to know exactly what I'm facing. Lymphoma is what the consultant is worried about. How bad is that if it's what I have?
Someone please talk to me :(

The scan will definitely reveal anything untoward if it is present in your body. They will also be looking for certain markers in your blood. If you do need treatment then it should start quickly after diagnosis. With lymphoma they sometimes do Watch and Wait if it is low level and not causing problems. Best wishes to you from me.

This is such a worrying time for you - but you will get through this.

There are so many types of Lymphoma, some more common than others. Lymphoma Action has a lot of information on their website. Likewise, Macmillan have online forums for particular types of Lymphoma too.

My DH was diagnosed with Lymphoma (Stage 4) almost 2 years ago. I won't lie, he was very, very poorly, and we almost lost him. BUT, the doctors acted swiftly and he had six rounds of Pola R-Chop. He has now been in complete remission for almost 18 months, and he has regular check-ups / bloods to make sure he stays that way.

This may sound daft, but I found a notepad and pen very useful. If I thought of anything I needed to check or ask about, I wrote it down so that I wouldn't forget.

Sending you <<Hugs>>

Thanks so much everyone. Really nice to hear everyone's positive experiences. I've felt so much better these last 2 days... as in nothing has changed but I'm feeling like it's something not terrible. Don't know why! But hope I'm right. Have been for my CT scan with contrast today... now sounds like I have a 6 day wait as I'm seeing my consultant on Thurs 22nd...

Sending positive wishes to you. Like others, I also have a friend who is completely in remission from Lymphoma. I wish you all the best 🌸💐

I hope everything goes well for you.

I have lymphoma, was diagnosed this time last year and was very unwell. I'm not quite in remission yet but hopefully my next lot of treatment will get me there. There are so many different treatment options for lymphoma and the Haematology team will know what to do once your PET scan comes back.

We are going through this with right now.

Lymphoma is a chronic blood cancer … it is something that is “cured” but managed with treatment when symptoms become problematic.

People can go a long time living with lymphoma before they actually need any treatment.

Please understand that the way lymphoma is graded is NOT the same as for other cancers.

Very often by the time people are diagnosed they are at stage 4 … please do not panic as treatment for stage 4 is still as effective.

There are soooo many different types of lymphoma too , some are rarer than others.

I have found Lymphoma UK so helpful.

Low grade lymphoma doesn't always need treatment but high grade lymphoma does.

My son had a high grade lymphoma which was incredibly aggressive and needed treatment right away. His type is known to double in size every 48 hours if left untreated.

I hope everything goes well, OP. As pp's have said, lymphoma is incredibly treatable, even if it is stage 4.

My son was diagnosed with non hodgkins lymphoma last year and after 12 weeks of intensive chemotherapy, he's now been in remission for nearly 8 months.

How are you, OP?
