Enlarged breast

Name changed for this as I don’t want it be associated with my other account.

I’ve recently found out I have the BRACA2 gene after my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. Ever since I’ve been checking my breasts. I’ve also been for an MRI and mammogram a few months ago which all came out good.

Today I noticed that my left breast is larger than the right. Not by a massive significance but it is noticeable. I wouldn’t say it was swollen. I’ve checked for lumps and any other symptoms but I don’t have any. Bar a slight discharge from my nipples. But it’s so small I can’t tell if it’s clear or milky. This discharge is also in my other breast too and it only happens if I squeeze it. I stopped breastfeeding 7 months ago so I’m not sure if it’s the last remnants from that.

Its also worth noting that I have just finished my period as I know it could be a hormonal change (I’m 43) or it could be a symptom of perimenopause?

Is it possible to have breast cancer with just an enlarged breast and no other symptom?

I’m a worrier so I will obviously book a GP appointment but I just wondered if anyone else had the same thing?

I think any changes should be flagged. But I suspect you are just being hyper vigilant now so you are noticing things that may have gone unnoticed previously.

This is what I said to my husband too. Before the diagnosis I wouldn’t have noticed it or been much bothered by it.

As a former BC patient, I’d get it checked because any changes, however minor, should be. I’m sure it’s fine and of course you’re going to be hyper vigilant. I imagine you’ll be closely monitored in any event because of the gene. Good luck and I hope it’s nothing to worry about.

I think it's normal for one breast to be slightly larger than the other, so it may be something that's always been the case but you've only just noticed. But if it's changed in size or you have doubts, I'd agree that you get it checked out.

Like others have said it’s probably normal but best get checked out.

For info I could still squeeze milk out almost 2 years after I stopped BF.

Thank you for all your comments, I’ve requested a GP appointment so let’s see how that goes.

and thank you @Gininvolvedthat’s reassuring.

@TheFormidableMrsCI’m glad you’re on the other side :)

So just to update you, I went to see a GP yesterday and she doesn’t think it’s cancer as she couldn’t feel any lumps. But she has referred me to the breast clinic.
