hello all, I am likely (according to consultant) get a positive diagnosis of breast cancer following biopsy. I was wondering how quickly from a being diagnosed was the surgery or other treatment plan?

I was about three to four weeks before my operation. It wasn’t long. Good luck. The lumpectomy is ok. Lymphnodes is more hurty. Do the exercises afterwards.

I had chemo first, and it was a couple of weeks from the date of diagnosis to chemo starting.

It was 5 weeks and 4 days from being told the biopsy results to my surgery (mastectomy for one breast with DIEP) flap reconstruction). I didn’t need chemotherapy.

Sorry to hear that. Sometimes they do more tests before surgery with certain types of breast cancer like lobular would normally have a breast MRI. I also had a CT scan of neck to pelvic area to check for spread but that's generally if you have other symptoms. Then it depends on type and exact diagnosis what treatment plan is, often surgery is first but for some chemo can be first. I had surgery first about 6 weeks after first told but got a cancellation. I had a mastectomy which was day surgery and not that painful. Hope they have caught it early and treatment plan isn't too bad.

3 weeks and that was during COVID.

45 days until surgery. I think the NICE guidelines is 31 days.

SunnyValemin · 17/04/2025 18:28

I had surgery 2 weeks after my diagnosis, 3 weeks after first visit to the breast clinic x

ChocoChocoLatte · 17/04/2025 18:35

I had chemo first then surgery followed by radiotherapy then more chemo

Fuckmyliferightnow · 17/04/2025 18:35

Mine was 3 months

The guidance is 31 days from the 'decision to treat'- so when you discuss with the consultant which treatment you will have and agree to it. There is also a secondary target of 62 days which runs concurrently, which says that your treatment should start within 62 days of your initial referral for investigations to rule out cancer.

Obviously there isn't much you can do if they don't have the capacity to fit you in within 31/62 days, but most Trusts will work to those maximum timescales wherever possible.

2 weeks and 2 days from biopsy results to surgery. Biopsy was a couple of weeks before and I was given a heads up at that appointment by the sonographer that it looked cancerous.

I was told they had a 30 day window from day of diagnosis to surgery being performed (dependant if there are other tests required).
The date my surgery is scheduled for will be 41 days from diagnosis but I needed a further biopsy on my lymph node to determine what surgery I needed. It is 27 days from the results of this biopsy.

Good luck to you
