Hey!

I don't expect anyone to give me medical advice I am just very worried and need a bit of re-assurance.
So I had my son in June 2024 I'm usually healthy.
In September I started with fatigue and general feeling rubbish, I can't sleep at night and I have 0 appetite.
I had blood tests an found out in October I have Hypothyroidism and Low B12 and Folate. That was sorted with Levothyroxine, B12 injections and Folic acid.
In December I noticed a large lump in my throat which I had complained about in 2023, but doctors were not interested, this lump has grown large at the base of my throat and developed a large nodule on the upper left of it, it feels like I'm wearing a turtle neck all the time.. I developed a nasty cough when my son was born and no amount of Antibiotics or steroids cleared it up, my voice breaks and no longer sound as I used to, hoarse voice of I talk to much. In January after Christmas I mentioned it to the doctor who sent an urgent referral to ENDO.
I was sent an appointment for a CT scan which I had with full contrast for my throat and Chest on Monday.
With all of my symptoms I am genuinely worried this could be Thyroid Cancer, only my husband knows of my concerns who is very chill about it all.

Am I being Silly...
What are your experiences?

Thankyou. X

I had a lump in my throat removed last year which had begun to press on my windpipe causing me to cough all the time at night. I had had the lump for a long time and different needle biopsies and ultrasounds had shown it to be benign. Because it was causing me issues at night I phoned the consultant's secretary who then gave me a face to face appointment and she decided it needed to come out quickly. It turned out to be stage 3 and 6cm in length. Then I had the rest of the thyroid removed and radioactive iodine treatment at a later date. At my last ultrasound they couldn't find anything new so they are not worried at the moment.
Thyroid cancer is very treatable. When do you have your follow-up appointment from your CT scan? Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

You probably have a goiter. Its a non cancerous lump in your thyroid. They are very common and very annoying. You should have it removed as it sounds like it is pushing into your oesophagus, but after that you will just have to adjust your thyroid meds and can carry in as normal. A very very small percentage of people with a goiter have thyroid cancer, but that is very treatable as well. They will check the cells of the lump when they remove it to see if any of them are cancerous. They can also do a biopsy without removing the lump, but I would suggest you push to not mess around with a biopsy if they find a lump since it is already a size that should be removed when you can feel it in your throat

When I started taking levothyroxine I developed throat and voice issues and was referred to hospital (on the two week (cancer elimination) pathway).

My tests were clear and the consultant said that hypothyroidism and taking levothyroxine can affect your thyroid (its size and other stuff).

Good luck! I hope everything is clear xx

Could also be a benign nodule on your thyroid, have you had a thyroid uptake scan ordered - US of thyroid and thyroid antibody tests done?

My daughter could have written your post. She developed all of your symptoms within months of giving birth. Including the neck swelling. I went away for a long weekend with them and I was very concerned to see how extremely fatigued she was all day every day. She disappeared several times a day for a nap and had zero energy.

She went to her GP on return home and blood tests showed her thyroid function to be extremely low. It took several weeks of levothyroxine to bring her levels up and several weeks more for the neck swelling to fully subside.

Her GP said it was surprisingly common for new mothers to go hypothyroid but hers was particularly hypo. That was several years ago. She’s on lifelong levothyroxine and her blood is monitored to ensure of the correct dosage.

Thankyou all for the quick replies, it's gives me much hope it is probably benign. Sometimes I just sit an my worry takes over! I had my CT on Monday and I haven't heard anything yet I'm presuming of it was something worrying they would of rang me by now. I do have an ENDO appointment on the 18th of March which I'm hoping will give me more answers, but I do hope they decide to remove it. It's all I think about because I can feel it all the time. Hopefully sorting out the right dose will make me feel more human at the moment I just feel like I'm dragging myself through the days. It's crazy what pregnancy can do to your body, I understand some people don't have pregnancies for this to begin but just seems I never bounced back after this pregnancy
