Ovarian cancer than now the doctors are not sure

I went into hospital to have my gallbladder removed and a 13cm mass was found on my one remaining ovary. My original surgery was cancelled and I stayed in hospital for 6 days due to water on my lungs.
I was discharged and told I would be back within a fortnight.
Three doctors had mentioned cancer and the head surgeon said don't worry because we don't know until we take it out. I only have one ovary due to a dermoid cyst 25 years ago.
Last week I received a letter to say that on a further review they think it's benign. Great news but my surgery's been put back to March.
What it doesn't explain is the breathlessness (like catching a breath). sickness, cold shakes and bowel issues. I have lost many stones in weight too. The bloating is massive and I can't sleep on that side. I certainly can't bear anyone near me.
I have a large scar from a appendix op sitting over that ovary. They couldn't do biopsies. I've had ct and alltrasound scans.
I have autoimmune conditions so I live with constant pain but this has been truly awful.
It started in November.
Any thoughts from those who have had ovarian issues.

Will they remove the benign growth?

and if you’re gall bladder needs to be removed… can’t that be contributing to your symptoms?

Lucelady · 13/02/2025 14:28

The will remove the growth yes and possibly carry out a hysterectomy.

not long to wait and I reckon you’ll feel miles better
I wouldn’t speculate

Do you have a consultant you can have an appt with in the meantime? Or can you ask your GP to help get some clarification?

Lucelady · 13/02/2025 14:41

I've put a call into the GP.
My mother died of bowl cancer, my aunt breast cancer. I cared for both.

I worried because of the breathlessness. I've seen it before but have never smoked so I don't get it. I had two scans lower torso and upper.

What are the gallbladder symptoms - do you have nausea as well as pain - are you eating less as a result?

Lucelady · 13/02/2025 15:23

I do eat less due to pain in general.

was the 13cm growth not evident?

Do you manage to work? What’s your level of activity like during the day? Do those treating you know about these symptoms?

my guess is all related to gall bladder

AppropriateAdult · 13/02/2025 15:41

I would imagine most of your symptoms are due to the size of the cyst/tumour, OP - whether it's benign or malignant, 13cm is very large and will be affecting lots of things. Hope you get some definitive answers soon Flowers

RedHotWings · 13/02/2025 15:49

The size of the mass is likely causing many of your symptoms by:

Pressing on surrounding organs
Causing local inflammation
Possibly affecting your breathing by pushing up on your diaphragm
Making it uncomfortable to lie in certain positions

Your autoimmune conditions may also be playing a part, as your body deals with the stress and inflammation of the situation.

Mirabai · 13/02/2025 16:00

How long have you and the nausea and cold snakes?

Lucelady · 13/02/2025 16:01

Since November..

Do you work?
movement levels during the day? Exercise?
how old are you?

Lucelady · 13/02/2025 16:05

Late fifties, mobility is poor. I walk with a stick.

Im on sick leave.

The breathlessness will like be because op you are, quite understandably, very very unfit. Throw in a huge growth and gall bladder issues.. it would be nothing short of a miracle if you weren’t feeling exactly as you are

A friend had a football sized benign mass removed.

She thought she was bloated from her food allergies and just struggling to lose weight.

It's very easy not to notice even a big mass.

13cm is big enough to make you miserable, sick, upset your bowels and breathless.

Lucelady · 13/02/2025 16:17

@AnnaMagnani my cyst in 1999 was the size of a football. I was as fit as a flea. 10k runner. Didn't know I had it.
I'm much older with lots of autoimmune conditions post DC.

@Lucelady you said you had fluid in the lungs ,have they explained to you what is causing that ,as fluid build up is possibly one cause of your breathlessness. You also haven’t said what your auto immune conditions are as these may be relevant to your symptoms. You do have a few things going on at once which ,apart form marking you feel very rough, can make it difficult with understanding symptoms.
