Squamous Cell Carcinoma

It's been confirmed I have one of these. Anyone know how long I may have to wait until I can get it removed. Scared about it spreading as it's getting bigger by the day. Thanks.

Where is it? Skin? Then very likely it will just be excised out, not a big deal.

99% 5 year survival rate

Thankfully it's been picked up and you can be treated

The health board you are under will depend on the waiting list for how long until treatment.
Were you waiting long to have the diagnosis?

AnnaMagnani · 04/02/2025 21:57

Squamous cell carcinoma of where? The location makes a massive difference.

If it's skin then yes it needs removing, no you aren't going to be pushed to the top of the list as it isn't an emergency.

GizmoIsSoFluffy · 04/02/2025 22:09

Yes, skin. I'm not asking to be pushed to the top of the list, just.wondering if anyone knew roughly how long I may have to.wait.as watching cancer grow on you isn't the nicest thing to have happen.

Wow what horrendous dismissive replies here! No big deal? Won't be pushed to too of list?

Squamous can be serious and important it's removed, whilst highly treatable it can also be disfiguring and have an impact on someone's mental health.

Basal cell can be left a long time, squamous cell they may run other tests to check and should be treated fairly quickly. Have you been told if early stage or in situ or not? May be best checking nice guidelines for treatment on squamous or contacting macmillan.

The great news it rarely spreads and is easily treatable but should be dealt with promptly.

If in England the target is 31 days or if you were seen on 2 week path way it's 62 days for treatment , hope that helps and all is ok

BobnLen · 09/02/2025 07:17

I had a basal cell carcinoma which I was told if it was a SCC they try to do them within 8 weeks, I was originally on the two week pathway. Where is it, is it on your face. If you are concerned I think I might try and go private for something like this if you can afford it, they are more serious than BCC but not so much as melanoma.

mindutopia · 10/02/2025 18:04

How do they know it’s SCC? From teledermascopy? They thought mine was SCC too and I was booked in for excision and biopsy 2 weeks later. Unfortunately, mine turned out to be melanoma (which had spread to a lymph node) after biopsy, so I would stay on top of them about booking you in and getting the proper biopsy results back. The good thing is that SCC is very treatable and other than the scar from removal it should be really straightforward.
