Any bowel cancer recovery stories?

My dad (in his early 70s and generally fit and well) has recently been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Turns out he'd been having tests for a couple of months but didn't tell us until the news was official.
He tells us he's had an MRI scan which showed the cancer hasn't spread and is contained in the bowel.
He starts chemo in 3 weeks to hopefully shrink the tumor. If successful, then the next step will be surgery.
He seems to have acted early on and went to the GP at the first sign of any symptoms. What's the general prognosis if caught early?
I guess I am looking to hear any success stories of bowel cancer patients being successfully cured.
Would love to hear any such stories x

I didn't end up having to have chemo myself, but during the initial discussion about it I was told that sickness can be expected (hence the anti-nausea tablets)

At this stage in his treatment he will hopefully have been given contact details for one or more Macmillan CNS's (Clinical Nurse Specialists) and he is probably best advised to ring them to ask directly.

If for any reason the hospital don't have such contacts, you or your father can phone or ask online over at the MacMillan website

@Worriedaandsad - being sick is definitely a side effect of Chemo BUT he may be bringing up some of the chemo medicine - please report this to his Chemo/Oncology team as his dosage may need to be adjusted.

My dad, now 81, had bowel cancer in his mid 50s, back in the 1990s. He had surgery and a stoma fitted as they did remove a large amount of his bowel; no chemo/radiotherapy.
He's lived a healthy life since, and whilst it did take him a while to adjust, the stoma is just part of him and he copes brilliantly.
Wishing your dad well, hope you're all doing okay.

My Dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer through the screening programme in 2020. He had a section of bowel removed, along with some lymph nodes, but was very lucky and none of the lymph nodes were affected so he only had the surgery as treatment. He has just had his 5 year all clear and is now 72 and so glad that it was caught early.
It's always so scary, but it does seem like the doctors have some really effective plans for this type of cancer, particularly when it is contained.
I hope that it all goes well for your Dad Flowers
