1 breast shrinking. GP said only concerned if it grows not shrinks - is that right?

I noticed over the weekend that my right boob has suddenly shrunk. It looks very noticeabley a lot smaller. Sent my sister a pic who confirmed it's very different. The skin around the nipple also seems a lot more shrivelled (not inverted).
I've been to the gp today to get it checked. I was also there before Xmas after feeling unwell for weeks, where she documented I had swollen lymphnodes in my groin.
Today she's looked at my boobs and said its only a worry if one grows, not shrinks. Made me feel very stupid actually for getting a same day appointment. Put it down to me being right handed and working the muscles around my boob more that side.
Now I feel like an idiot but wanted to check does this sound correct? My head is saying book in with another gp at the surgery but I don't want them to think I'm a time waster. I still have swollen lymphnodes I'm my groin. She examined my boobs and couldn't feel any lumps.
Thanks

Skin changes are a concern

A quick google tells me that shrinkage can be breast cancer. Obviously I have no idea if that's the case here, but I would absolutely get a second opinion. My mum was told her very soft lump didn't 'feel like a tumour'. Thankfully the GP sent her to the hospital anyway and it turned out to indeed be cancerous. I think it seems very remiss of your GP not to refer you for further tests. Not all breast cancer has a noticeable lump. Inflammatory breast cancer, for example, manifests in changes to size (albeit swelling), skin or nipple. I was right down the breast cancer rabbit hole when my mum was diagnosed!

I would want a second opinion - and a referal to be honest.

But then I don’t trust a lot of medical people as my own medical condition was ignored until I changed doctors.

I'd push for a referral too

Better to be checked over.

Get a referral.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/02/2025 10:32

I don't think that is correct at all. Skin changes including puckering should always be checked out.

I would try and get a second opinion with another GP and ask for a referral

I would get a second opinion. And don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself. Did you remind the doctor about your swollen lymph nodes? You’d think they would have that information at their fingertips and be aware of the whole picture, but that is often not the case, I’m afraid.
