Symptomatic and positive FIT but GP refuses referral

I’m a bit confused. After months of pain, dramatically altered BMs and bleeding, I finally went to the GP.
by way of background I have complex auto immune issues and assumed these were related to the changes.
my blood tests came back showing I’m anaemic and also I’m not absorbing stuff.
The FIT test level was 50.
GP has said no referral as 50 is borderline. The test result says online anything above 10 should be referred. Is this right?

My husband got something like 14, had no clear symptoms other than fatigue and was referred on the two week cancer pathway for an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Everything turned out to be fine fyi.

Thank you. I am waiting to see what is going to happen. I’m very nauseous and have been sick a fair amount now. I have no idea what’s wrong but I’m fairly sure this isn’t normal!

Go back, say you aren't happy with that answer, don't accept being robbed off - I had to argue to get somewhere but once on pathway things moved quicker.

Unless there’s something lost in translation ,please see another GP, you don’t say your age but it’s likely you should be referred anyway purely on the basis of your symptoms, if I were you I would write an email/ do an online consultation form where you state all your symptoms, and state that you believe your fit test result should mean you need further investigation….if it’s in writing I would hope they might give you a better response ( or at least explain their reasoning, I know local protocols can vary but I likewise thought anything over 10 needed more investigation)

I agree with the previous poster. Put what you have said here in writing to the gp and ask for an explanation as to why he is not referring you for further tests.

Could It be because you're body has something else wrong that he's now medicated you for with a view to repeating a fit test in a month to see if there is an improvement or something?

A colonoscopy is "quite hard on the body" apparently. That is the reason my gp did not refer me when I asked back in the day before for tests were invented. I don't know if that's true or not, and perhaps it was back then but equipment is better now. I honestly don't know. It's what mine told me to explain why I wasn't being referred.

If he's packed you off with no treatment then I'd suggest you either need a second opinion or the gp to explain why you are not getting referred.

I'd also ask what he is going to do about the anaemia if your body is not able to absorb iron.

Apparently floradix is an excellent supplement. My nutritionist recommended it to me. I can't absorb some things either. You can get iron infusions intravenously but I believe you have to be careful of side effects.

Anything you say is better in writing as it'll go on your file. If he won't refer you I'd get a second opinion. If I couldn't, I'd pay if I could on my credit card, to go private.
