Lump on the floor of my mouth - very scared

Hello everyone,

I’m looking to hear from others with similar experience please as I am really scared. I am 36 and have 2 young children youngest only just turned 5.

I discovered a lump in my mouth a few months ago, it is hard, white and painless. As it wasn’t causing pain or irritation I just left it and didn’t think to get it check. I went to the doctors finally yesterday and they have put me on the 2w pathway.

the doc shone a torch in my mouth and said she is referring she did not say what else it could be and then said wait for the refferal. I was in the docs office for less than 5 mins and left a bit shell shocked.

has anyone had this and it’s begin or a cyst or something less serious?

thank you all in advance - I feel so stupid I left it so long before getting it checked.

Where is it? Under the tongue? Sounds like they’re on it which is reassuring, you know how slowly the NHS usually moves. I have one on the roof of my mouth for years (over a decade). A dentist told me a long time ago that it could be a reaction to a virus. Good luck OP!

It’s on the gum behind my front teeth - I hope it’s just viral or something like that, the fact that they are acting so quickly makes me more scared to be honest. Thanks for your reply

I had something similar a few years ago and rang a dentist in a panic. They were able to see me that day and reassure me that in my scenario the lump was actually a bit of extra bone and even though I’d only just discovered it, it had been there a very long time.

If you can, I’d try and get in to see a dentist X

Could also be a saliva duct blocked with calcium. Go to a dentist I think they would have better idea than gp. But anything in mouth for longer than 2 weeks is always checked. Most are completely harmless.

Dentist here. Go and see a dentist. We look at mouths all day and might have a better idea as to what it is. It could just be a torus or some completely normal but see a dentist to maybe get an idea/reassurance.

Get a dental appointment asap too.
Just in case, it's likely to be related and no harm in a second opinion you'll probably get an x-ray quick smart and put your mind at rest. 👍

See a dentist asap

I have had a 2 week cancer referral for a ‘mouth thing’
Doctor and consultant thought it was
It wasnt and all was ok

Thank you all for your advice, I will try get a dental appointment but unlikely to get one before my appointment at the dental hospital on the 17th. The responses have been reassuring that there are things other than cancer that this lump could be.

Are you NHS or private OP? The reason I ask is if NHS I can understand the longer wait time for the dentist but if you’re in a private practice, I’d be surprised if they can’t see you sooner. If they can’t then I’d phone other private dentists to see if they can see you today and tell them you’ll pay -I know that’s me assuming you can afford it, but the peace of mind would be worth it for them to say it looks fine… hope all goes well

I’ve just realised it’s a Saturday 🫤 but they may still have emergency dentist that are private

Individewl · 07/12/2024 11:49

I’m registered as an NHS patient at my dentist but I’m sure they would allow me to pay privately to be seen sooner as I have paid privately for treatment in the past. I will give them a ring on Monday.

How did you get on?
I have a little boney lump on my gum above my tooth. I keep googling and scaring myself.
Las saw my dentist at the beginning of December but noticed it after my dentist appointment
