Sadness

Slidingthrulife · 28/11/2024 06:16

I am 56 and seeing more and more of my friends being diagnosed with cancer; not early stages but late stage with no major symptoms before. It seems like there are increasing cases of cancer. Four friends have been given a terminal diagnosis. Fit and healthy people who have done nothing but get on with life and are good lovely people

such sadness for their families and friends

I'm very sorry for this...
I lost 2 good friends to cancer so am sending hugs..

Enigma52 · 28/11/2024 16:45

Yep it's totally bloody unfair.
I'm 53, on my 3rd bout of now incurable cancer. I eat well, don't drink or smoke. First BC was when I was 38!

Im bitter beyond belief!

MindBodySoul · 28/11/2024 17:13

She died within 4 weeks of diagnosis

I have two friends in their early 40s being treated for BC now. Both having lots of chemo and radiotherapy has well as double mastectomies. It's horrible. I don't know why it's suddenly taking so many people so young. Is it just that we know more? Is it that we all drank alcohol in our teens?
I have v young children, no siblings and an older husband and I worry almost every day about something happening and them being left without a family

Enigma52 · 28/11/2024 17:20

Strikes me that you are damm lucky if you don't get hit by cancer these days. I don't even know how some people are able to avoid seeing a GP for so long!

Runmybathforme · 28/11/2024 17:43

Yes, one of the many horrible things about growing older, your contemporaries start to die. It’s called ‘ sniper’s alley ‘.

I also lost my best friend two years ago from a brain tumour... She was only 31

Breast cancer is very treatable and lots of money goes into its research ….if you are going to get cancer then it’s one of the better ones….most treatment is offered with curative intent….I wish your friends well

Enigma52 · 28/11/2024 18:57

@Kitkat1523 Except if you are diagnosed denovo ( straight to stage 4). Also, have you heard of metastic breast cancer? It affects 30% of women who are diagnosed with primary BC. Then it's treatable but incurable. There are many different types of BC; some are very aggressive and fast moving. It's not one of the " better ones" because there is NO " better cancer" Treatments for PBC and MBC can be harsh on the body and brain!!

@Kitkat1523 That was uncalled for. The PP has already said she’s on her third bout of incurable cancer.

Enigma52 · 28/11/2024 20:12

@Kitkat1523 wow!!
What do I THINK I know exactly?

Actually, I've got secondary breast cancer. I'm on oral chemo and a hormone inhibitor NOW! It's incurable.
I have 3 monthly scans: cancer in my lungs and omentum.

My primary, for your information, was 2009. Last time I had a mastectomy? 2009. Last time I had IV chemo? 2010. Last time I was in tamoxifen? 2010-2020. Last time I had radiotherapy? 2010.

Oh, mustn't forget my womb sarcoma in 2023!

Look up METUPUK.

So, do piss off!!

Massive over reaction. The three people I know who had breast cancer, 2 died within five years of secondary cancer and the treatment was harsh. I’m glad you didn’t find that to be the case but those I know who’ve had chemo have found it hard and leaving lasting effects. I’m not sure playing cancer top trumps is helpful.

Thankyou.
What a nasty person.

TeenLifeMum · 28/11/2024 20:15

@Enigma52 I’m sorry to read what you’ve been through. Ignore people who are drains and surround yourself with radiators. Wishing you all the best.

That must have been an awful shock. My dad died in September, 7 weeks after diagnosis when he'd been given a few months. He was 68. Such a traumatic ending.

Yes my Dad had breast cancer that was removed but metastasised and that's how he died

Iheartmysmart · 28/11/2024 20:20

@Enigma52 I’m not stalking you honestly but have read some of your posts on another thread and know you’re going through some bloody awful times right now. That post was just spiteful and unnecessary.

Enigma52 · 28/11/2024 20:20

@TeenLifeMum Thankyou 🙂
I'm furious at those comments.
Treatment is hard, often with side effects.

I agree OP, this awful disease does seem to be hitting more and more younger people.

Enigma52 · 28/11/2024 20:22

@Iheartmysmart yes, I'm very upset. Thankyou though.

Gosh @Enigma52 I'm really sorry didn't connect the different posts and posters so apologies that must have come across as very insensitive of me.

Please ignore the pp outburst. It was uncalled for and in poor taste given the nature of the board. All the best

Edited just saw prev posts

Enigma52 · 28/11/2024 20:43

@Redhothoochycoocher It's fine. I'm hoping treatments will keep me going for a while longer 😊

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. It's a horrid disease, which does sadly have a habit of metastasising.

Slidingthrulife · 28/11/2024 21:14

Some of these posts are heartbreaking to read and I feel so sad for all those having cancer and for those watching their loved ones go through it

it Is a bastard disease that has no compassion for age/status/circumstances and it impacts so many people in so many different ways

My original post was around how it seems that so many more people are being diagnosed at (what seems) a younger and younger age. Though I know that no age is an acceptable age.

However at 56 I do not consider myself to be in “snipers alleyway”!!!!!

I guess it’s a reminder that life is unpredictable and truly shitty things happen to good people

x
