Boney lump

I found a small lump at the bottom of my sternum slightly to the left. Not painful and feels like bone. Only noticed it the last month or so I've been to see the GP and she didn't say a lot, just that she could feel it and it seems strange. She has ordered done bloods and referred me for a chest X-ray under the 2 week wait suspected cancer pathway. I'm so scared. Stupidly been googling boney lumps and reading about osteo sarcoma. Anyone else had similar and it not been cancer?

It is terrifying when you are put on the two week pathway. However, it is not a diagnosis of cancer. It simply means that cancer is one of the very, very many things that could be wrong. The odds are probably very low but, because cancer is present at all in the mix of possibilities you are now on the pathway. I've been on it twice but have never had cancer (to date, fingers crossed).

I've had some little bony lumps on my hands and feet and they have been described as 'arthritic changes'. They appear, like many other things, with age.

It is good that you are getting it looked at quickly so hopefully your mind will be at rest soon.

@ForPearlViper thanks for your reply. I'm hopeful it will all be fine it's just a worry until you find out for sure. I had a breast lump a few years ago and all was fine. I'm keeping everything crossed.

Whenever cancer is mentioned as a possibility you always go to the worst place. In all honesty it could be a number of different things, of which cancer is one of many. Unfortunately waiting is the worst part but at least you’re getting it investigated.

My understanding is that osteosarcoma is usually very painful. There are so many benign conditions that this could be.

I've had bloods that were ok, GP wasn't expecting to see anything on bloods) and I've now had a chest X-ray. I've an appointment on the 8th to discuss the results. Since I've been to the GP I've noticed an intermittent ache in my chest which has me worried. I know there's a higher chance that it's not cancer but there is still a chance and it's hard not to worry.

First x ray was not the best view to see the sternum so had to go back and have a second X-ray (lateral view) GP still not sure if this will show what they need so may need chest CT. Awaiting a call this week for the results.
