Breast lump

Hello, I'm not sure if I should be posting here as I don't have a diagnosis, but I'm waiting on an appointment at the breast clinic on the 9th September after finding a lump 2 weeks ago. I saw my GP on the 19th, and then again on the 28th (she wanted to see if the lump changed after my period). It's odd because sometimes it's more obvious than others, I initially found it because it was too tender to lay on, but all tenderness has gone now.
I'm 39 with two young children and terrified it's something sinister that's been there ages and I've not noticed. I do have generally lumpy breasts, but this feels different to my normal breast tissue.
I'm not really sure why I'm posting, but I haven't wanted to tell my mum or sisters because we're already dealing with family illness, and my husband must be fed up with me talking about it by now... so I just need a place to offload my thoughts I guess

The biopsy is nothing to worry about. They obviously numb it. Even the one I had removed via surgery wasn’t so bad, as far as surgeries go. Because it’s fatty tissue and not muscle, the recovery isn’t so bad—it’s a matter of keeping it from bouncing around until it’s healed. I had my surgery on a Friday and was back at work on Monday (at a desk job, where my boobs don’t move around—if I had a physically demanding job, it would be a different story).

@CowTown - what happened to your fibroadenomas? Did they go on their own or did you have to have them removed?

I would Always ask for them to be removed…..I had one removed in 2012 …..I was given the option of remove or not…..and 2 weeks later was told a 4mm cancer had been found attached ….. i then needed further surgery to get a clear margin …..the cancer was pre invasive….so no ability to spread….but it would only have been a matter of time……I’m sure you will be fine….40 people attend our breast one stop shop every week…..only 4 end up with a cancer diagnosis….I wish you well

Thanks @Georgethecat1 we're pretty busy this week so thankfully I'm quite distracted. But I will remember that technique.

@HawkersEast so glad to hear you got the all clear. I imagine having the biopsy made you fear the worst. How was the biopsy? I'm going to have to drive myself so I'm hoping it's not too bad if I need one

Thank you! I actually wasn't that worried by the time I had the biopsy, I had an ultrasound first and they were 95% it was fine, the biopsy was to confirm their position.
Biopsy itself was fine, I drove myself. They injected a numbing agent, 10 mins later done. Small cut, one dissolving stitch. Had to sleep in a bra for a week, it needs the support. Ice pack for the first day, it helps with swelling and bruising.
Honestly, I'm more worried about having the lump removed..

Worried12345678 · 02/09/2024 08:39

Wow @Kitkat1523 that's scary. Hopefully I'm worrying over nothing. But the lump is very much still there 2 weeks on so hasn't disappeared with hormonal fluctuation.

Thanks @HawkersEast - that's reassuring. I've got another whole week to wait. I'm trying not to keep touching it, but part of me is hoping it just disappears so I keep checking!

2 more days to wait. I don't know if I'm pleased or not. Blissful ignorance has something going for it.
The lump is definitely less obviously a lump. However I can feel an unmovable ridge in the same spot so there is something there and I'm worried that perhaps hormonal changes just made the tissue above the lump bigger but the lump underneath is still something worrying.
Additionally I have now got a small pea sized lump in the other breast!

Just hopping back on to report it turned out to be multiple cysts. The big lump I could feel were a few bunched together under my breast tissue. Both boobs are full of them apparently - so I don't suppose that will be my last visit to the breast clinic... but I now have a new baseline normal to work from. Will make sure to keep up the regular checks now

Ah great. Same exactly as me. Did they drain them for you? Mine contained dark gunk like an old radiator 😬.

Happy for you! Keep checking and have a nice cuppa now and relax!

No they didn't. They said they prefer to leave them alone unless they're really causing problems. It would have been nice to get rid of them, but I can deal with it if I know what it is

Thanks @ThatMakesSense - just glad to be back to feeling normal again, feeling anxious for 3 weeks was so draining!

Waiting for my mammogram results were the 2 longest weeks of my life!

Worried12345678 · 10/09/2024 18:58

You had to wait for them? I had one in 2021 (not sure why really as I'm too young) and I'm sure I got told on the day!

So happy for you it must be a relief, very similar to mine 🙂

Hello. Just wondered how you are all doing? I found this thread by searching 'breast lump'.

I know the answer to this is that none of you can give me an answer & I should check with GP... however, I just wondered if any of you can describe the feeling of a lump?

I noticed something a few days ago on the side of my breast that was just pea-sized and shaped. I then couldn't find the lump for a few days, but noticed it again today. I do have fairly large (F cup) breasts. Getting a GP appointment is quite complicated for me for numerous reasons and I'm really not sure if it is a concern or not? (Especially as I couldn't find the lump for a few days and it's only pea-sized.)

Worried12345678 · 19/09/2024 20:02

Definitely get checked. It's probably nothing. But if you don't get checked and it is something worrisome then you will wish you went straight away.

My lump was oval shaped and bumpy. It turned out to be a couple of cysts next to each other under breast tissue which made them feel unusual.
I did actually find another lump in the other breast which was round, moveable and about the size of a pea. That also turned out to be a cyst.

You need a referral to the breast clinic. Nobody can tell you and it's really not worth the risk. My pea sized lump was round and bumpy. It was cancer. The practice nurse was sure it was a cyst but I wasn't prepared to take the chance and thank God I didn't. Remember that 9/10 lumps are not cancer and the odds really are in your favour. However without professional assessment you won't know. Please don't take the chance!
