My lovely Dad has been diagnosed with Colon cancer. He’s 82.

He has a plan; radio/ chemo therapy beginning next Monday. The oral chemo he is going to have is called Capecitabine.

I can’t help but worry for the potential side effects as he is already very drained from the wicked side effects of this horrible disease.

We are seeing the Oncology sister and also the specialist pharmacist on Friday.

Does anyone have any suggestions please regarding any questions that I can ask as this it is very stressful as you can imagine. I would appreciate it a lot.

But there is a plan. We have hope.
My goodness it is so so horrible seeing him suffer with these horrible symptoms.

And breathe .

So sorry about your Dad, it must be such a worry for you.
I've had Capecitibine for bowel cancer. The side effects will be explained to your Dad. Everyone reacts differently though and it can be different from one cycle to another.
Hopefully the hospital will have a 24 hour oncology helpline for your Dad to call if he's feeling unwell or struggling with side effects.
Ask if your Dad will be given a 'Cancer Treatment Record' book ( I think everyone gets one) - it's got really useful information on side effects and frequently asked questions.
I hope your Dad does OK on the Capecitibine. It's a scary, confusing time for you all but there is a lot of support available.I found the Macmillan website and the Maggies centre at my hospital really helpful.
