Should I stop breastfeeding?

I am currently breastfeeding my 8 month old, and found a new lump in my breast and was referred to the breast clinic.

They did an ultrasound scan and said that it looks like it is fibroadenoma but it can be on the edge, so will do a biopsy. I went in for the biopsy, and they said they won't do it until after I stop breastfeeding as it can cause complications, also they have taken another look at the images and think it's most likely fibroadenoma.

She then said that anyone who has a lump over the age of 25 automatically gets a biopsy, so to not worry.

I don't want to stop breastfeeding, but I think I might have to just to get a biopsy. I was planning to breastfeed for another 6 months, but may have to stop earlier for this biopsy.

Should I be worried?
Has anyone been through anything similar?

If you're going to worry for 6 months, stop. It really won't make a massive difference to your baby now. I BF until 14 months so I do understand. But I would have had the biopsy.

I'd stop immediately. Your health matters too.

It's sad your bf journey may have to come to an end a bit sooner than you would have hoped and not through choice of your own but you have done a fantastic job the last 8 months and now may have to think about putting yourself and your health first

How long would you have to stop breastfeeding for?

Would the clinic be happy if you just stopped feeding from that breast? You could try to carry on from the other one. DD was a little older (13 months) when we went down to just one side. That was just because neither of us liked feeding from one of them. It worked for us and she carried on for ages from just the one side.

I would agree with the suggestion to just feed from the other side, if that's an option. It's surprising how well the milk supply can adapt.

I didn't have to stop breastfeeding and had multiple scans and a biopsy. Have a read of the below and you could get a second opinion and ask that they provide the evidence that means they're entitled to deny you investigation and treatments.

Just wanted to say it is definitely possible to feed from one side only. I have fed from one side from around 8 months and your supply just adapts.
