So just looking for some positive feedback really but I’ve found a lump in my breast it’s pea sized and firm and doesn’t move. Went to the doctor he has sent me for an urgent breast cancer referral. Trying to stay calm but loosing my head as I have two babies.

Sorry this is happening. It happened to me very recently and it’s terrifying. The reassuring thing to remember is the large majority of breast lumps are not cancerous, so it’s like you’re fine. The wait is awful though, I realise. I hope it all goes well for you.

9 out of 10 breast lumps are not cancer.
Breast cancer is one of the most common, and most treatable cancers.
Treatment is so much more likely to be successful if cancers are caught early. Which is why 2 week pathways exist - they want to catch every single cancer, which means scanning a LOT of women who don't have it.
Who is going with you for your scans?
Sending you a massive hug.

thank you both for your messages. My husband said he would go with me. Just waiting for one to come through. It’s so crazy how you can lose your mind so quickly with it all. Really appreciate your replies !

It's no wonder you are afraid. Breast cancer awareness marketing is HUGE. It's been very powerful in getting women to head straight to the doctor's if anything is different. It does also mean that a lot of women who don't have cancer go through this whole terrifying process.
At this stage, try and look at it for what it is - an investigation.

Thank you @BatsInSpring that’s a really good point and way to look at it. Thanks for your time to respond.

I suddenly found a lump 7 years ago - I had very young children at the time. I had a 2 week referral and unfortunately it was BC. It was a very challenging year with chemo and radiotherapy but I kept my hair and still here 7 years later. Am sure you will be fine but just to reassure you that even if you don't get the results you want, there is hope x

Hi OP. Not sure how reassuring this is - but I noticed my first lump in my 30s and 5 years later I am now full of them and end up at breast clinic every 3 months or so to check them out. (I have about 4 I can feel at the minute!) So if you end up like some of us cyst queens, you might eventually feel.pretty chill about the screening. But it is scary at first - definitely. Chances are you'll be completely fine. You'd take a 9 out of 10 chance on a bet wouldn't you?!

@Jennywren8 thanks for sharing your story. That sounds very scary. So pleased you’ve come out the other end. ❤️

@Corksoles thank you for your message. Absolutely. That’s worth remembering 9 out of 10. Hopefully it will be a cyst too x
