Sore swollen lymph nodes after breast Cancer

MrsMontyD · 06/07/2024 16:58

A couple of days ago I felt a small hard lump in my armpit on my breast cancer treatment side, it's a lymph node and quite sore, today there's another.

I realise this is probably completely unrelated to my breast cancer but I'm a bit unsettled.

Standard advice seems to be to give lymph nodes a week to settle down, before seeing a GP, anyone had this? Did you wait that long?

Can't breast cancer surgery affect lymph node drainage? You are obviously worried though so quite reasonable to see GP sooner rather than later.

Do you feel unwell with a virus?? Mine sent crazy with covid. Are you still having treatment? If so, I'd call your hospital care team and ask them, if not, call the GP Monday

I don't feel unwell, although it's hard to tell, I'm on an injection to shut down my ovaries and Anastrozole so frequent hot flushes, tiredness etc.

I'm under my GP now (well share care with oncology)

I'm not sure whether I can go directly back to the breast care team or not. I think I'll call them first.

I seem to have swapped names now I'm on the app, weird.

I had lymphedema after radiation, I can't feel any issues now but I've started lymphatic drainage massage just in case.

You need to go and get that checked out. Get an appointment ASAP and if it goes away in the mean time then that's a good sign. If not then you have an appt sooner.

I don't know how it works in your area but in the clinic I work in you would need a referral from your GP if you have been discharged by your surgeon (usually after 2 years).

It's not two years since my surgery so I'll try the breast care nurse number on Monday morning, thanks.
