What did your breast lump feel like?

I'm waiting anxiously for a lump to be checked but at the same time I feel as though it possibly cannot be sinister due to what shape/feel is like.

May I ask what your 'lump' felt like?

Mine isn't round, it feels more like a thickening of tissue inside, upper quadrant.

But I breastfeed my nearly 3 year old, so GP didn't seem concerned at all, gave me antibiotics which haven't done anything and lump still there. It doesn't hurt at all.

But it's not 'small' like a pea or lemon pip as I have been told it would be if it were cancer. It's just a mass of thick tissue.

I don't want to google. But I guess I'm curious.

Thank you x

It's perhaps less concerning that you are due on your period. I discovered mine not long after my period, which is how I sussed it was different- I get very sore boobs anyway, sometimes day after ovulation for the next 2 weeks. It seemed to go smaller later in the month while waitingfor the clinic, but that fits in with it being ER positive.

I'm on cycle day 8 now unfortunately and still there. Should be seen on Monday

Finally saw the GP. She had a little feel but it wasn’t very thorough, it didn’t last long! She asked if I wanted to go via NHS or if I wanted to use my private healthcare for a breast clinic referral, so I went with the latter. Apparently I’ll be seen within 5 working days after talking with AXA.

This is what the GP wrote today on my form; “On examination there is a mild firm area in the upper outer quadrant of the right breast.” Is it usual for them to say ‘area’ as it’s not a lump per se? It is just a thickening; that’s how I described it to her. Was this a symptom for any of you?

Hopefully hear back with an appointment asap!

Hello, I’m glad you finally got a referral. I developed a lump in my right breast when I was breastfeeding and I also had recurrent bouts of mastitis.

i was referred to breast clinic and the ultrasound showed I had a benign milk cyst, they called it a galactocele. It was about 3cm round. It took a couple of months but did eventually go away.

I'm glad you're managed to see your doctor.

oberst · 10/05/2024 20:32

@Halfheadhighlights this is what I am hoping it is too! It's not round though which is odd. It's not smooth either. It's like a hard pebbly patch! X

Mine was like a stretched oval and firm to touch but moveable. It was a cyst.

Hateliars34 · 14/05/2024 07:30

My right breast has an area like yours. GPs weren't concerned but I was eventually referred and told at the breast clinic that since breastfeeding I've lost the fat in my breasts and gained breast tissue and in one breast I have very prominent breast tissue. Two years later I still have the same thickness/lumpiness which is exactly as you describe on the right breast, in the same place you've drawn yours.

Hope all goes well with your appointment xx

That's reassuring! I do think it'll be breastfeeding related. I'm still waiting for an appointment x

Mine was a small lump that I thought might be a gland, so delayed it for a while. The GP described as a thickening and want concerned but sent me anyway, even the surgeon who felt it at the clinic wasn't concerned but still biopsied and did a mammogram. I was under the impression they sent anything suspicious. If it doesn't go down, I would go back and get it checked. I suppose it could be a blocked ducts but I don't know about them as I didn't suffer with them.

OooohAhhhh · 23/05/2024 22:08

Mine was 3cm, and more of a "bump" if that makes any sense? On my chest wall, kind of oval in shape. Funny you mention breastfeeding, I had the lump in my left breast & that was my primary feeding breast. Mine turned out to be normal breast tissue, which like you mention feels "thickened".
The lump felt hard to me and longish, but the dr said it was soft & squishy and knew the size of it without measuring.

Hi all, sorry to jump on, I am just posting as I have found a very small lump. I am unsure of wether to go to the GP as it's very small like the size of a lemon pip or small pea.

Likewise I don't want to be too laissez faire about the whole thing, especially as my Mum has had BC. Has anyone had similar and still gone to the GP?

Onelessboob · 05/06/2024 13:34

Please just go and get it checked. Mine was a bit like that near the armpit, and I have a friend who I think was similar near the nipple. I have also friends who've had a lump and it's just been a cist in the end but I think they would prefer you go anyway just in case, and it would put your mind at rest. The gp tends to refer for testing if any doubt. These things are best if caught early.

Good luck!

Sorry to say but not all present with a lump. I have lobular breast cancer and it starts with thickening of the breast tissue. My tumour was 6.9cm but never had a lump. I didn’t know mine was there until lymph nodes swelled.
My local private hospital does a breast screening clinic for a set fee which gives very fast results & doesn’t need a referral. So as you’ve got insurance, book on somewhere like this and get it checked out.
As you’re feeding it is probably milk related but definitely better to be safe.

Hello,

All was fine. Sorry I didnt update this thread.

I have thick scarring from where I have had a few bouts of mastitis in that breast. Such a relief. Thank you all x

Oh that's good news!

Springwatch123 · 11/06/2024 15:33

Mine was small and felt like a dried out pea (or that’s how I imagined it), or one of those baking beans, you put in a flan case when cooking.

Yes, go. Doctors will always take lumps seriously, especially if there’s family history.

Always go to get it checked out . No one will mind - it's important .

I was diagnosed with invasive lobular bc in 2023 from a mammogram - I had no lump at all - I lucky it was caught early . I do t think before that point I had realised that not all bc presents as a lump.

Nowifi · 08/07/2024 16:23

Thanks I have now been referred by my doctor, she said she can feel the lump too so at least I know I wasn't imagining it! She also said it's not likely to be anything to worry about.
