Large Solid Breast Lump

Jelly4444 · 28/04/2024 20:58

I'm absolutely scared to death. I found a 6cm solid breast lump that appeared from nowhere. I've had a mammogram, ultrasound and a core biopsy. The ultrasound technician said that the lump was well circumscribed but is solid and has vascularity. Its definitely not a cyst.

My GP told me it was probably just a cyst and it's now 7 weeks since I found it. My results are Wednesday afternoon. Has anyone had anything similar?

@Jiminycrickets I felt like this lump appeared overnight. I don't think it's gotten much bigger since then though.

I have little experience of this (my breast lump turned out to be nothing, but my GP totally freaked when she felt it, and rushed me in to the breast clinic as soon as there was a cancellation) - but I think the waiting for results is torturous. It's a suspension of reality until the coin lands one way or the other.

All the best for this afternoon...

@Jelly4444 totally understandable you’re stressed. Hope you get answers soon. Not knowing what’s going on is really tough.

That's exactly it! Fear of the unknown.

Hope all went well OP? 🙏

Fingers crossed OP. I had a fibroadenoma, 7cm. Although benign I requested removal as it was so big and they agreed and was removed 2 weeks later and full histology done. Went in, hiding the scar at the colour difference around my nipple. Partners since have said if they weren't looking for it they wouldn't have noticed!

Jelly4444 · 01/05/2024 18:43

And breathe... good news! It's a very large fibroadenoma that needs to come out. The surgery doesn't bother me. What an awful week but I am so relieved now.

Fantastic! So pleased for you! You must feel so much better now. Like another poster, I can barely see my scar from my surgery. I remember the breast nurse said to me that I made the right decision as otherwise you keep feeling and checking it.

DirtyDensDog · 01/05/2024 18:51

Really pleased for you.

Jelly4444 · 01/05/2024 18:53

I can't even explain the relief that I feel. You have all been so lovely. I didn't want to burden my family so all your messages really helped instead. Thank you so much!

Hi, I've been searching through messages and found the above. I've developed a walnut size oval lump literally over in my left breast. It doesn't feel smooth. It feels like a walnut and also the size of a walnut. I'm waiting for the GP to call me back. Has anyone had this type of lump? I've just started HRT so I'm thinking it's hormone related? Any advice would be appreciated - thank you

Jelly4444 · 19/07/2024 15:15

@meemeemammy so sorry to hear about your lump. It's a horribly worrying time. Strangely enough, the first question the consultant asked me was if I had been on HRT recently. I've never been on HRT so I didn't question why she asked.

The lump that I had was oval and pretty smooth but I could feel that it had some texture to it, maybe walnut like, if I pressed hard on it. Also, my lump was below my nipple so probably deeper than yours. It was hard and solid but not like stone. Like hard tissue rather than a pebble.

My best advice from my own experience is to listen carefully to what the radiologist says. I felt that she knew exactly what the lump was and I've had friends say the same thing. I hope you get a call from your gp soon. Keep us updated.

Thank you so much for your reply. Your description is identical to what I have apart from mine is above the nipple. It also feels like a brain/ walnut texture so sounds like a fibroadenoma. I've still not had phone call back as all the systems down and everyone had to go via 111. I've only been on HRT for 3 months and reading comments on this thread has lead me to Google fibroadenoma ( little mouse) and it says it can happen with HRT.

I'll keep you posted, and I'm so glad yours was sorted x

Thx @meemeemammy Have a look at phyllodes tumours also. I'm assuming you are in your 40s /50s considering you are on HRT. It's rare to have fibroadenomas in your 40s according to my doctor. Phyllodes tumours , although rare, are more likely in that age group I believe. They are mostly benign but they can keep growing if not treated.

Hi, just to update. I had a large cyst filled with fluid, which I had incised and drained.
Super impressed with NHS services.
Thank you for replying to me. I am a nurse and had never heard of fibroadenomas before.
Take care x

That's wonderful news @meemeemammy thank goodness you are in the clear and can move on! Congrats!
