I found a lump

Sorry you probably get hundreds of these on the board. I’m only 35 and found a breast lump when showering today. I’m shit scared and just really worried that I won’t get seen quickly because the nhs is such a mess right now. I’m going to call gp in morning and beg for an appt.

do all lumps get referred to breast clinic or is there chance doctor will poke it and say it’s not needed ? Are people still actually seen in two weeks if a referral is needed ? I’ve spent all evening googling private breast scans trying to get an idea of costs because I can’t bear the idea of waiting weeks for a referral that is delayed or some other drama like lost test results. Has anyone done this? It seems initial appt is £250 which I could afford but I wasn’t sure how much biopsy’s etc might run too. If I’m seen with nhs do I have to wait ages for any results or can they give me all clear quite quickly from breast clinics?

I’ve got a holiday in 6 week that I’m desperate to go on as well. I know logically this lump is almost definitely nothing and I’m really upset that if I don’t get seen quickly I might struggle to get travel insurance.

I found a lump at your age... went to gp..they said might take 2 week but i had phone call same day and they got me in next day at breast clinic. Both gp and nurse felt it...but it was just cystic breasts. Its not always sinister OP...try to keep busy ...listen to podcasts, watch comedy films etc whilst waiting for appointment xx

@Loubelle70 thank you . I’ve actually been to breast clinic now (25 days after referral). Waiting on biopsy results. Sadly wasn’t a cyst for me but still likely to be some other harmless lump.

I had a biopsy and it was agonising waiting. They thought mine could be cancer but was something called diabetic mastopathy in the end.

But it's a very treatable cancer for most these days too. All the best OP x

@aodirjjd wishing good news for you tomorrow. My lump was benign in the end, fingers crossed you will be in the clear too.

Thank you . That’s fantastic news for you! Ive got fun plans in the evening and just working on the assumption everything will be ok. Partner is coming with me again which is good as I thought I was going alone.

the clinic implied I might instead get a call in the morning (reading between lines that means good news but no call doesn’t mean bad news) so I will be staring at phone until the appt.

I’m so sorry, you’ve fucking got this though. You will beat it. Stay strong.

Holidayhooha · 22/05/2024 18:49

Seven and a half years ago I had the same news - grade 3 BC which turned out to be in lymph node. This period of waiting is the worst, once you have a treatment plan you kind of roll along with all the steps you need to take. The NHS care was great and the stats are massively in your favour but for now you will only feel shock until the next steps are underway. In my experience the NHS pulls out the big guns and there are so many new treatments coming through all the time. Cry, rage, grit your teeth and do whatever to get through these difficult early days .

Knittedfairies2 · 22/05/2024 18:59

You won't believe me when I say this - I wouldn't before my diagnosis - but you've done the really, really hard bit now. Waiting for the results is really brutal, but once you have a plan you'll feel more in control; one day, one appointment at a time. Best wishes OP.

HesterPrincess · 22/05/2024 19:00

Oh no, you must be reeling. Take your time coming to terms with this - when my Dad had his cancer diagnosis, it took him weeks to get his head round it all. And write down all the questions you have for upcoming appointments. One step at a time Flowers

OP I’m soo sorry! My mum had grade 3 and came through it.

Did you meet your MacMillan nurse with the oncologist and more importantly, do they have a plan?

herbygarden · 22/05/2024 19:40

I'm so sorry OP, lots of good advice and positive stories on this thread. Take it one minute at a time. Best of luck with your treatment Xxx

Delphina17 · 22/05/2024 20:03

I'm so sorry, OP. My friend's mum had this 10 years ago and it was resolved after a few months - she's not had any health problems since.

Wishing you all the best with your treatment and sending a big virtual hug xxx
