Early breast cancer detection

Mum went for a mammogram and was called back for further assessment.

In the mammogram they found a very small (tip of a pen) classification and after undergoing x-rays and scan of the area and now a biopsy we wait for the results which are next week.

From what I have read online a lot of times they are non cancerous but has anyone gone through and this it was cancer. Just want to hear stories of either yourself or people you know.

My mum is 59 and I've just felt really sad since at the thought of her being sick of even worse not being around.

Don't know if this will help but Im also awaiting results of a breast biopsy for a small area of concern found in routine mammogram. Im 58.

I asked what the stats were and they told me 1/4 of these biopsies came back with cancer found.

So your mum (and I) have a 75% chance of being clear. And if we're in the unlucky 25% it has been found very early, and is likely to be highly treatable. Of women I know who were diagnosed in this way (three!) all three have been successfully treated and are cancer free and enjoying life to the max.

Give your mum a hug and try not to catastrophise. (Be gentle if she's got a sore boob.from the biopsy like me!) Hugest hug to you it is horrible having to wait for results X

My 70 year old friend was diagnosed with breast cancer after a small lump was found after a routine mammogram. They operated to take lump away, it was found that it had spread to her lymph nodes so she had to have chemotherapy otherwise the operation would have been all that was needed. She was in quite a bit of pain after operation and commenced chemotherapy about 3 weeks after, I can’t remember how many sessions she had and the only side effects she had was night flushes for about 3 months after, which apparently is normal. She got the all clear after six months and honestly apart from being a little tired a day or two after the chemotherapy, she carried on as normal.

Yes, mine was caught very early, small but aggressive tumour, hadn’t spread to lymphatic system.
i was 51 at the time. I had a mastectomy, opted to stay flat, recovered well, up and about a week or so later and no need for further treatment. That was what I had been dreading but the surgery dealt with the problem.
Wish your mum all the very best. Thank goodness she went for her mammogram. At this early stage her outlook is positive.

I found what was quite a large cyst enclosing a small (7mm) tumor last September. Had a variety of biopsies and then a lumpectomy before Christmas. They thought they'd got it all with the operation but decided on 10 sessions of radiotherapy which finished today! I'm pretty tired but other than that ok. My poor boob is a bit red and swollen.

When do you find out your results ?

Your message did help actually and made me feel a bit more at ease so thank you.

Thinking of you also when you do get your results, I hope it's clear for both you and my mum 🙏🏻 xx

So sorry you went through this and glad you got the help you needed.

My mum has apparently avoided going to her previous screenings so it's strange the first time she goes in years and they find something. It's definitely been an eye opener for her and actually for me also. From what I have read and from other posts here, it seems even if it is very early days and is treatable.

Wishing you the best also x

My mum's screening also showed a cyst which they drained out but the classification further up was very small. We get the results this Thursday and it's all I have been thinking about.

I am so happy for you that you finally finished your radiotherapy and wish you a very speedy recovery! X

I am so so sorry to hear that ☹️ it's a good thing that they found it very early and that it's treatable. Praying for you that your surgery is a success 🙏🏻

My mum's appointment got rescheduled but then they called today to say it's not cancer and turned out it was a raptured cyst that may have caused some inflammation which then created that but otherwise she's in the clear xx

Thank you so much @butterflywingss I'm feeling OK, just fed up that all the things I had planned over next few months are now going to be replaced with medical treatment.

I'm so pleased your mum has had an all clear, what a huge relief. Hope you're feeling a lot better now this worry is relieved Flowers
