How long from diagnosis to treatment? Too long?

My lovely mum was diagnosed with cancer in September, its already at stage 4-cervix, bladder and bones. She's had multiple tests to try and determine the primary cancer but they still don't know and she still hasn't started any treatment.

She sees her consultant next week. I don't know if this is standard procedure or if she's being badly let down by the system. Surely 4 months is too long to wait for treatment? It's felt like an eternity.

I don't have any experience in this but I wanted to say I'm very sorry you are going through this and it does seem like a long time to wait to begin treatment.

That's awful. Is she in pain and do you have access to an oncology nurse? They are allocated to you and act as your information point and can find out what is happening. If you have a palliative team, they sort out pain relief and any occupational aids you need. In Wales I think its supposed to be 66 days from discovery to starting treatment. I hope you get some information soon.

6 months for my mother.
Diagnosed, told it was aggressive and then finally had a hysterectomy on the 4th January. Sent home 24 hours later, no information other than we might call you in a week or two.

Still don’t know if it’s a stage 2 or stage 3 cancer. Also don’t know if the tumour was fully successfully removed, or if it had grown significantly since we were told it was 3cm’s at the one and only appointment face to face she’s had.

I never believed cancer services in the UK would be so, so bad.
