Hi, All. Just wanted to ask if there is anyone has gone through thyroid cancer diagnosis, I just had an ENT appointment and they think by the scan that it's cancer. As I had lump for 2 months, but the lump is actually nodule and benign but they have found cancer on different side. 😫😥 I am panicking as I have got two kids under 4, one of them is autistic. Oh my Lord. As a mother, you get scared for your kids, dont you? Don't want to go through terrible phase. I have biopsy booked for next Wednesday, dont know what should i do or expect. Haven't told my husband yet. No family here, they live miles and miles away. Just want some positive stories. Thanks 😓

If it’s any help, my nan was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when in her late twenties and underwent surgery. She then lived a further 70 years, welcoming 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Treatment back then was nowhere near as advanced as it is now yet the only outward sign was a tiny scar on her neck and she had to take Levothyroxine for the rest of her life.

Hi, I've not had it myself but I know a couple of people who have. My understanding is that, as long as it hasn't spread, they remove the thyroid and you don't need to have chemo. You would need to be on thyroxin for the rest of your life but that's just tablets and occasional blood tests.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

Op my sister got thyroid cancer when she was early 30’s 2 kids youngest was 6 mo old oldest 3. She had thyroidectomy and lymph nodes removed and then radioactive iodine treatment and now on Levothyroxine. It was tough especially with such young kids but she’s 12 years cancer free, had another baby too who is now 5. She gets monitored 3 monthly by oncology/endocrinology alternately they are very thorough.

much love to you, my sister went through a lot, her baby was breastfeeding and she had to stop and there’s time after the iodine where you have to stay away from young kids etc take care of yourself and I hope you’ve got a great husband and family to support you, lean on them and your medical team too.

It's scary when you hear the word Cancer.

I had thyroid cancer over covid so had to wait months for the biopsy and operation

I'm a single parent so I just made sure everything I could get in order was in order and that kept me calmer.

The biopsy came back inconclusive, I had to lay on the table (I didn't have any sort of meds due to covid apparently so not sure what, if anything, they actually give you) had the scan thing on my neck while they inserted the needle and removed some of the growth. It wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't the worst thing. I was a bit bruised afterwards for a few days.

Shortly afterwards I got the appointment for my operation. Due to where they cut you, you'll definitely need help for about 2 weeks, I wasn't in hospital for long, just a day, but you don't actually realise how much you use your neck until you can't anymore. I couldnt pull myself up in bed, or if i slipped on the couch. I got a few of those corner pillows which were a godsend, but you really do need to rest. Because it was just on one side I had a hemithyroidectomy, so I'm not on medication for my thyroid at all, I do get regular checks and bloods taken now.

Unfortunately I had some complications due to having to wait and where the growth was, but hopefully you'll get your operation quickly and won't have any issues.

All in all it sounded a lot scarier than it actually was, and the doctors reassure me that its a 'good' cancer to get if youre getting one because its such an easy fix. Even though it didn't feel very good at the time.

Good luck op.

Thanks for reassuring. It's something that we can't control, but I will stay strong for the kids.
Will update once I get my biopsy result.

I know it’s scary. I’m feeling that way too. Had colon cancer, all removed. Thank goodness. Had a thyroid uptake 10 weeks ago and last week received a call saying I have a mass on heart. I know heart cancer is extremely rare and I’m hoping they would have had me in sooner if they were worried. They haven’t a clue what it is. All I know it’s not a new thing.
it’s difficult, especially when you have young kids. Try not to Google. Easier said than done. My moods awful and I’m a nightmare being around just now. Try not to worry. 💕xx

it wasn't the same type of cancer but my dad was diagnosed with cancer in July, stage 2-3, had chemo radiation from September-November and got the all clear in December, complete resolution of tumor. We were all very worried for him but he's had brilliant results.
