Hi all

Been a hell of a start to the week! I had a GP appointment yesterday because I’d had some bleeding after sex (sometimes) and some pain during sex randomly, but in last couple of months it’s been almost every time. I didn’t think about it as being related at the time but also having regular nausea, some weight loss and very lethargic (but I thought this was due to ongoing gallstone issue - I had my gall bladder removed a few months ago and symptoms did improve but unfortunately not gone away). Also recently been having quite a lot of watery discharge, but no odd smell at all and it’s clear or very light milky colour (TMI - sorry 🤦🏼‍♀️😂)

GP did speculum exam and said she was going to swab me, then when she looked at cervix she said she could see quite a bit of redness and irritation and then when she felt my cervix she said there was roughness and on that basis she wasn’t going to swab me and was 2 week referring me for cervical cancer check.

First I’m confused as to why that meant she couldn’t swab there and then, has anyone else had this?

She mentioned that it could be a cervical ectropion but they should still feel smooth and that the roughness in texture that she felt on my cervix was what lead her to believe it could not be and what warranted the urgent referral.

To be honest I’m just in shock, I was not expecting this at all as had a totally normal smear back in early 2021 so wasn’t even due my next one yet!

Has anyone else had a similar experience and what happened to you? Would so appreciate anyone else sharing, I’m feeling very alone in this, we have 4 children and I don’t want to tell my husband yet as he’s so stressed as it is and he’s such a panickier so don’t want to worry him unless there’s definitely something to worry about.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this xx

p.s. I turned 30 this year 😊

@artteacher82 I have come across this thread as I had a similar experience at the GP today.

I’ve noticed in your post that your appointment is tomorrow and just wanted to wish you well ahead of your colposcopy.

it’s such a tense time- it sounds like the waiting is the worst part!

artteacher82 · 09/04/2024 06:30

@Band3benefits thankyou yes it's today , had a little wobble yesterday but ready to get it over today , fingers crossed it's nothing to be worried about - hope you get some answers too ! ❤️

Lulabella22 · 09/04/2024 18:06

@artteacher82 hope all went well x

artteacher82 · 09/04/2024 20:15

@Lulabella22 thankyou , think so the consultant had a look and said she couldn't see anything but she took a biopsy to be sure and arranged for me to have a scan as well but did reassure me by saying she doesn't think I have anything to worry about , the biopsy wasn't very nice but was over very quickly .

Lulabella22 · 09/04/2024 21:51

That's great news. Sounds very much like you can put it to the back of your mind now and just wait on the results which I'm sure will be fine. The consultants know what they are looking for so the fact she has said she couldn't see anything is really reassuring.

Hi I’m very new to this feed but I’m worried it shall I say I have worried myself in thinking there’s something wrong cut the long story short I went for a smear test 2 weeks today and I have not received any result. With previous smear results I have gotten them within a week all normal but I’m thinking is there something wrong this time or am I overthinking I do appreciate and do not want to hurt anyone’s feeling going through this. Thanks

Jotkaur · 01/05/2024 19:44

You are overthinking! Smear results often take a while and getting them quickly a few years ago is irrelevant as all services are under pressure and things often take longer these days! Also, I dont think they check the cells in smears anymore, just check for HPV infection. So maybe the process itself is even different to before. I had a smear a couple of months ago and results took at least 4 weeks. All good.

Oh thanks for your quick reply and this sure has reassured me yes I was told by the nurse I spoke to that this is the case I have anxiety ever since I took the smear test I just hope it comes back ok I’m unable to function atm I have two young lovely children who need me and I’m just not 100 percent there I’m trying to put it at the back of my head and hopefully that result will come through the post soon thanks for your lovely reply..

Jotkaur · 01/05/2024 20:21

I’m a big worrier and always thinking the worst case scenario which is wrong I was worried about the smear even before I took the test just wondering what the result will be I am aware that abonormal results are not always cancerous but like I said my anxiety hops the wrong side of me!!

artteacher82 · 06/05/2024 09:33

Just a quick update , I had my biopsy results and no sign of cancel or pre cancer , also had my scan results and nothing there either except for Adenomyosis which is nothing to be overly concerned about I'm told , the last 6 weeks have been horrible waiting for results so I feel that I can breathe again !
