Feeding tube

Hi,
Stage 3 lung cancer
The radiotherapy is going to cause issues with my oesophagus so I'll need a feeding tube

But I've just thought, how do I take my tablets then? I'm on stroke meds every night

Crush the tablets, mix in water, put down the tube. Or some meds come in liquid forms. I'm sorry that you are going through this - best wishes xx

There will a nurse who manages people with feeding tuber. If you don't see that person ask, if they don't have one ask who will be your contact for troubleshooting in the community.

You could also ask to see the clinical pharmacist. They should be reviewing your med list as some things can be crushed (enteric coating) and you may need changes to your medications. You should be supplied with a pill crusher and shown how to use it and how to manage your meds moving forward.

Best of luck!

Thanks, that's helpful

I'm sure they'll have it in hand - I don't know why it's popped into mind!

As above all my meds come in liquid form. Just make sure you flush regularly. Nutricia sent out a nurse to train me and I can call her, ring my dietitian or go to A&E if I have any problems. Mine is life long. I've had one in for a few years now. You find in time what works for you best.
Also ask for a back pack so you can take it out on a mini stand when necessary.

DM has had a feeding tube over a year now, they often give her meds through the tube as long as it's flushed between feeds. If you're allowed to have small food alongside, stock up in ice pops, she finds them very soothing! Take care OP Flowers
