I need suggestions for easy low-cal meals(for 6!) as DH thinks we should just go to the chippy. We're hoping to camp for 3 nights next week.

There is a really good receipe for cous cous salad with feta on the side of the Ainsley Harriot Citrus Kick Cous Cous packet that we have every year when camping, when you read it it sounds a bit meh, but it is lovely, really, we have it with crusty bread and it only requires you to boil water.

Also 'Chicken Noodle Salad'. Fry strips of chicken breast seasoned with a little chilli powder or paprika depending on how hot people like it, when ready add ready to wok noodles and pine nuts, leave to cool a little.

Chop celery, avacado and apples mix whole lot together and add soy sauce.

Serve, is very yummy.

If it's one of those poxy little stoves that sits over its own little bottle of camping gaz, you pretty much need to stick with tins, as it'll over-balance with a big pot on, and will take about 2hours and 4 cans of gas to cook anything. Camp stoves are pretty weedy too. We used to have one of these.

If it's decent sized burner, you can do vedgie curries, bolognese, chilli etc. Very healthy! You could keep it warm by wrapping it in an old towel or something while you did rice/pasta. After several years faffing round with a little cooker, we got a good sized double burner and a good sized calor gas cylinder. We eat much better now when we're camping.

No laughing here. We use this as an extra ring when needed and it works really well.

I second the Ainsley thing, it tastes lovely.

Have a lovely time camping.

we have that burner too and I am on a bit of a diet! Just come back from camping!
I did thin steaks with crusty bread and salads for first night supper.
everyone had onepan fryup for breakkie, but I had muesli.
we had sandwiches and fruit for lunch, I had made some soup and frozen it, put in cool box, we had the soup for supper, children then had some sausages in breadbuns as they were still peckish.
we also took a disposable bbq, so you can do meat/fish on that, and cook pasta/veg etc on the stove.
(then we went to pub for 3rd night [hoorah!])

Well I just boiled a rather large pan of water from cold in about ten mins so that's promising.

Has anyone experience of mixing say chilli and rice in one pot? What I mean is if I made the chilli at home and mixed through some cooked rice. I could heat it up and serve with pitta bread and salad and manage with the one ring?
