Option one:

Hi gear Corado 6 (or the www.gooutdoors.co.uk/hi-gear-corado-4-4-berth-tent-p146878 Corado 4]] for the smaller option)

OR

Easy Camp Boston 600

I have been eyeing up the Boston 600 for a while and umming and ahhing. It's a good price (An online company promised £225 including footprint and carpet when back in stock, although it isn't yet). I love the massive windows too. I haven't been in one though.

However today took a trip to Gooutdoors and they had the Corado 4 up (They haven't had one up on ANY recent visits). It was lovely - the green was light, the space was nice, the porch seemed nice too. It was pricier than the Easy Camp (and now I'm obviously eyeing up the bigger model to boot!) although I have heard that Gooutdoors do ocassionally do a special offer on the Corados.

Any comments? It's for two adults and two children.

However on a visit to Go outdoors today

I have to admit I really like the Corado 6, I was admiring it at Go Outdoors the other day.

They have obviously based it on the Outwell Montana 6 (which I own) so maybe I am a bit biased , but I think it is a good tent.

It seems that Hi Gear are producing some really nice tents now, I have just brought the Caplan 5 (when it was on offer at Go Outdoors) as a weekend tent and I am really impressed with it.

Having said that I like the look of the Easy Camp that you have linked to as well plus it is considerably cheaper and comes with that nice little awning bit for you to get your wellies off when it is pissing it down sit under when it is sunny.

But as they are both SIGed and have HH of 3000, I think would be tempted by the cheaper one tbh, I can't really see what the Hi Gear has to warrant an extra £130 quid, except the little storagy pockets that feature in Outwells too, which I admit are damn useful, but maybe not £130 kind of useful.

Btw I love that the Easy Camp is described as 'waterproof' like it is some kind of optional extra

lunavix · 26/06/2010 11:13

A reply Thanks

SHHHHHHH!!!!! I also noticed that, but bf hasn't yet - I was told I wasn't allowed to buy the Montana 6. Too big, too expensive, too heavy etc. However.... if the corado goes to £249 anytime soon like it did last year I may just be compelled to buy it.

The Corado 6 is much longer than the Easy Camp, which tbh I'm uncertain about for pitch sizes etc. The Corado 4 felt a nice size (there wasn't a 6 up at GO when I went) - although small bedrooms and it's 90cm longer than the EasyCamp although that included the porch and the EasyCamp doesn't include the awning.

Hi Gear do seem to be improving don't they. I also had a wee at the 'waterproof' !

Just re read my post! No idea where that last sentence was going!

If you are camping for a week or so at a time, I would seriously consider getting a 6 man not a 4, the general rule of thumb is to go for at least 1 man more than the manufacturer suggests.

If you are there for a while you will need a fair bit of stuff for the 4 of you and this takes up alot of room, which is sometimes hard to visualize when you are looking at tents. Plus that bit of extra room comes in really handy when the weather is crap and you all have to eat in the tent.

If you get a 4 man I can almost guarentee you will wish you had gone for a 6 after your first trip.

I can't believe how expensive tents have got in the last couple of years, our Montana was only £260 just three years ago.

lunavix · 26/06/2010 12:23

Shall I assume you are suggesting the Corado 6 then :D

The easy camp is the same size as the corado 4 - smaller actually if you count porches and awnings. It's just the bedrooms are slightly bigger - but not by much.

OP posts:
WhereTheWildThingsWere · 26/06/2010 12:34

Wow it is significantly bigger isn't it? Hadn't lookad at the measurements sorry I just read the specs.

Now you just need Go Outdoors to have another one of those 20% off all tents days .

lunavix · 26/06/2010 12:38

Tell me about it

I think I need to go for the bigger one - have you ever had any probs with pitch sizes and the monty?

I'd have considered buying a secondhand monty (it was the tent I actually first liked, when bf put his foot down ) but to be honest they hold their value and I like the excitement of buying a new tent. And I REALLY can't afford the outwell!!! I was pushing it at the Easy Camp but I've fallen in love with tunnel tents!

OP posts:
WhereTheWildThingsWere · 26/06/2010 12:48

No, I've never had a problem with pitch size for the Montana.

I think most tunnel tents are fine tbh, it's people with these sort of jobbies who can run into problems as they are just mahoosively wide.

SanctiMoanyArse · 26/06/2010 12:51

Of those two I would say the Boston.... they have it loally and it's an excellent tent.

But try as ahrd as you can to get to a display; seriously tents up are so important to view.

lunavix · 26/06/2010 13:06

My friend has that hartford :D it's what put me off dome tents - it feels like you are going down a mine! Especially with the tunnel-style porch bit!

OP posts:
lunavix · 26/06/2010 13:07

Sancti - would you not say it's a bit small? I don't think there's one anywhere near me :/ I have to travel for blinkin miles even to get to a GO.

OP posts:
lunavix · 26/06/2010 18:54

Okay so if the Monty is now available for £244ish...

that adds to the mix. I don't like the slopiness of the front compared to the other two though and accessories would bankrupt me!

OP posts:
SanctiMoanyArse · 26/06/2010 20:12

I didn;t think it was that small tbh (and I speak as owner of a monte verde 900 pmsl)

I'd take 6 of us in it for a weekend. Certainly 4 for far more.

SanctiMoanyArse · 26/06/2010 20:13

But you'll never, ever go wrong with a Monty: we had an outwell before and had it had 4 bedrooms I can safely say it would have ben perfection

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 28/06/2010 11:30

Seeing how cheap you can get the Monty atm I really would go for it.

I understand what you are saying about the flat front, it is more aestetically pleasing, but it is a bugger if you have to pitch facing the wind, which on some campsites you are forced to as you cannot choose where to pitch, or the wind might change while you are away.

A flat front is going to be terrible taking the full brunt of a storm, sloping would be much better.

Tikkabillajive · 28/06/2010 11:45

I have the Corado 6 and absolutely love it - we bought it last summer for £250 though, I can't believe how much it has gone up this year.

We are 2 adults and 2 children like you - at the moment the kids are small so we use the bedroom as one big room which is lovely. And I reckon we could easily spend 2 weeks living in it as there is so much space - the living area is huge and the built-in awning is fab - we can fit a cooking stand and picnic table in the awning easily, with plenty of room to move around and to sit.

The only slight negative I've found is that it does seem to take ages to put up and take down again - maybe this is just because we are slightly crap campers though and I am always too impatient to get to the sitting in chairs drinking wine bit to tolerate the faffing about with poles bit . But it did seem to take hours at half term - so much so that I have just invested in a Quechua pop up tent (which is AMAZING - we've just had nd in it) because I wanted to do lots of little one and two-night trips over the summer and the Corado felt like too much of a palaver just for weekend trips. We're keeping the Corado for longer holidays though and I think it will last us for years and year as it is so spacious and seems so well made and designed.

Tikkabillajive · 28/06/2010 11:47

Sorry, that should read that we've just had our first weekend in the Quechua not that we've had nd in it .

lunavix · 29/06/2010 22:10

WTWTW - Not sure I'd be camping in a storm

Tikka - thanks for that. I too have liked the look of the quechua, but they just look so claustrophobic...

OP posts:
WhereTheWildThingsWere · 30/06/2010 12:44

Lol, nobody goes camping in a storm

We were in an unbelievable one in July, North Norfolk last year, rolled in out of nowhere.....

Seriously even in a stiff wind, if it is face on, you are going to feel like you are going to blow away, for the price I really would give it some thought

lunavix · 30/06/2010 17:18

hmmm

I mean I'd be more likely to go home! lol Definitely a fair weather camper here!

I'll give it some thought

We have just returned our Boston 500 to the camping shop after 2 nights use. The quality of the stitching was rubbish. Considering they are made by Oase who also do Outwell I expected better quality even if Easycamp is their budget range.

We had one of the main straps that attatch the inner to the sig lift up, stitching come loose on one of the inner tent seams and the velcro for the window curtain things was sewn on wonky. The quality was more Argos / Halfords. It wasn't a £250 tent by any stretch.

We've just swapped it for a Kampa Frinton 4. here Paid £300 for tent, groundsheet and carpet bundle. I really like the darker bed pods as I have early rising dc's. There is enough living area for the 4 of us if it rains and the side storm porch was a winner.

It's a great weekender tent but I wouldn't use it for long stays as I don't think it would have enough space. We have a huge Outwell Florida 6 for that.

lunavix · 30/06/2010 19:58

Thanks ebay addict

To be honest I think my heart is set on the Corado... I might have to hold out

OP posts:
Tikkabillajive · 30/06/2010 23:35

I don't find the Quechua claustrophobic - although we've only used it for one trip so far and the weather was so fab we were outside most of the time.

I had a GoOutdoors leaflet in the post yesterday - can't find it now, I think DH might have nabbed it to read on the train to work - but I'm pretty sure it had the Corado 8 for £299. Weird that it is cheaper than the 6 berth one, and probably too big for you, but I thought it was worth telling you about anyway! Hope you eventually manage to get a bargain on it as it really is a brilliant tent.

lunavix · 01/07/2010 06:25

Tikka - thanks yeah too big... Its nearly 70kg!!
