Self-inflating mattresses... how deep?

Looking at self-inflating mattress for DH & I but all the double ones seem to be 3cm deep. I can't think that's enough as we are both side sleepers.... should we spend up and get deeper?

check out Dozer on Alpkit.com . It is 7 cm thick and lots of mumsnetters recommend them on here. I'm a side sleeper and wouldn't go for anything less then 7 cm.

I'd go with poppyboo's recommendation. We've got 2 Fat Airics (the previous version - now Dozers), and we just put a double fitted sheet overt to make it a double. It keeps everything together. It's also considerably easier to pack than a similar "ready-double" would be.

we have 5cms lidls ones and they are fine. I also have used them with cheap roll mats underneath on ground that looks a bit rocky thus increasing softness without having to spend the extra £££ required to get xtra thick

We have 3cm deep ones and they are surprisingly comfortable. Have felt no need to go deeper. Can you go to a camping showroom and try one out?

I have plumped for the 7cm and - wow! - they have arrived. Super super comfy. Only thing I've "sold" the idea of them to DH on grounds that we can reduce the car load and they seem HUGE. Can I really live without the extra blankets underneath and the second duvet if I have them?

Yes definately don't need anything underneath with a dozer IMO - I have the new dozer too, and a far airic and one of the £50 new ones (forget the name think they are 5cm deep).

Not sure about the duvet on top as I'm a hot sleeper and only ave short jammies and a sleeping bag and hat.

I'm alright once I warm up and have to throw all sorts of things off, but when I go to sleep I like to be super toasty...
