Camping with babies - keeping warm?

Sorry if this has been done to death but we are taking our 7 month old baby camping for the first time next weekend. We are going with friends - one couple have a baby of a similar age to ours and one have a 14 month old. We are all a bit concerned about keeping them warm at night.

We all have travel cots and are planning to put something (in our case a sheepskin) under them to provide insulation from the ground but I was wondering if anyone has any tips as to what a baby should sleep in. Is a grobag ok perhaps with a snowsuit type thing under it to ensure their arms stay warm? Is a hat a good idea?

Any thoughts would be very welcome and any other tips for camping with babies would also be very much appreciated....

Hello, fellow fruit-lover. We took DD last summer when she was 16 months or so for the first time. She slept in a travel cot, on a blanket and sheepskin. She wore a long sleeve t-shirt and leggings with a velour sleepsuit in a grobag with a blanket on top! She was easily the snuggliest of all of us.
In fact, she sleeps really well in the tent and we have been about four times since. We are about to take our newborn who will be about 6 weeks am hoping for similar sleeping success!

DS is 18mths.

He sleeps in vest, PJ's, socks, sometimes a cardie, gro bag,and if its a bit chilly I throw a fleece blanket over him when i go to sleep.

We went this weekend and the temp was pretty good overnight. DS is also on an airbed as we can't fit the travel cot in the car and he sleeps great.

Thanks for your tips. Hopefully the babies will all be really snuggly now . If the one-nighter we are doing this weekend goes well we will be doing a whole weekend the one after so fingers crossed for a good night sleep.

The key is in layering clothing, and if it is particularly cold just snuggle the baby up to you in your sleeping bag.

When DS was little he just slept with me so I made sure he was nice and snuggly in plenty of layers when he first went to sleep and then when I went to bed I would remove some layers and just tuck him into the crook of my arm in my sleeping bag. Snuggly and warm all night that way (for both of us!)
