It was absolutely brilliant!! It may even have been the best festival I have ever been to and I've been going to festivals every summer for over ten years.

So if you went (and I know it's a long shot here on MN) come and talk to me about it.

I did too. Lovely and chilled out. We don't live too far away so went on Friday and then came home for other committments on Saturday and went back Sunday morning for the day and evening.

I am sooooooo jealous and determined to go next year now you have confirmed its excellence.
Please tell me what lovely things happened/you did?

Spidermama · 15/06/2010 13:48

Hooray Dina and Meltaran!! Wasn't it fab? I'm still wearing my band.

Earthy there were around 3000 people there and 2000 traders/staff/contributors. That's a level of service which I think I could get used to!

There were pizzas being baked in ovens they'd made out of a few bricks. The burner was also warming the water for them to wash up etc.

There were great workshops. No generators in site. (There was site elecricity but also lots of panels etc.) The invisible circus was absolutely brilliant. Always is.

It was full of lovely kids, incredible costumes, such huge outpourings of creativity and a feast for the eyes. Hardly any litter, lots of fab music and not a drop of rain all weekend.

Oh and compost loos all the way. I didn't even see or should that be smell a chemical toilet. Loos regularly cleaned out. No horror stories on that front.

I want to be back there.

Maybe see you next time earthy?

Definately, I am going to insist!
Did you see my bestest band, Seize the Day?
I love them and I know from FB that they had a great time too.
So I'll start planning now.

Do you want to stay in that world forever?

I am getting more and more alienated from the mainstream, where profit and money rules and wishing I could meet other people who feel the same. I feel a bit inadequate in talking about Transition, Peak Oil etc but I guess I could learn as I go.

I guess I should put my head above the parapet and start a group or meeting where we could together to discuss how we live with the changes we face and make a good life but I'm scared!!

Sorry, I got sidetracked there, However, will surely see you at Sunrise 2011!!

Blessings EM x

Earthy I think I love you.

I meet all these amazing, like-minded people at Sunrise. Many of them are from my home town in Brighton but they are absent from my normal life on the school run and in the supermarket etc. I guess that's why I love these festivals so much. I feel I am with my tribe.

Sunrise 2010 was the festival where I finally got to see Seize the Day. I've been going to festivals for about 15 years but usually with small kids so I tend to just do what they want. I kept looking wistfully over at the tents where they were playing. I could hear the heartfelt appreciation coming from the crowd and I would sigh and think, 'that sounds good' as I changed someone's nappy.

Well this time I was in that tent. I was sitting at first but by the second or third song everyone was on their feet and by the end of the set we pretty much all had our hands in the air and were dancing, crying, laughing with them. FANTASTIC!

Any time you're in Brighton send me a message and we can hook up.

The music was great found some new favourites and saw some old ones, the site was lovely, the get in process smooth and well organised,i thought the compost loos were excellent. We took our teenager who for once wasnt bored and we played some great gigs with really nice audiences so all round a brilliant experience , i hope they ask us back next year!

Spidermama · 16/06/2010 11:20

I liked much of the music too. The get in process was smooth but I didn't know in advance about the no glass rule so that was a bit irritating though we sneaked in our jar of peanut butter without incident.

My kids decided they needed more donut money so they set about ways of making it.

DS1 busked with his guitar and did very well. The girls washed up for campers but found the donations so small as to be exploitative < so-called 'women's work' under rated even at a hippy festival it seems >

I'm now considering going to OOTO in September. Similar vibe to sunrise but closer to me, cheaper and smaller.

Melt were you performing there then? I saw some great stuff. I loved the women singing gorgeous, harmonious stuff over a dirty, great boyish bassline. DH really loved them too. I think they were doing some kind of workshop for willing teenagers who wanted to quickly rehearse and perform as a dance troop.
