had lovely week camping but seemed to spend a ridiculusly long time putting clothes in piles in the corner of the tent then they would spread accross the floor when I wasn't looking..... do I need to buy one of those wardrobe things? or is there another way......

No one needs a wardrobe

Our clothes just stay in the bag, sometimes in the tent, sometimes in the car.

Because I am deeply anal and a moderate control freak I create piles of next day clothes on the floor (pants on the top ) before I get into my sleeping bag the night before. I don't do that for dh though, he just puts on the same clothes everyday anyway.

Flutterbye · 08/06/2010 12:08

Noooo, we just used to have a bag each (or kids shared) with compartments in that kept things a bit separate, as clothes were worn one bag became a dirty washing bag. Obviously no-one but me knew the system, but that doesn't matter!

specialmagiclady · 08/06/2010 13:03

Ikea bags!

Slubberdegullion · 08/06/2010 13:22

Next time round I am fully resolved to put all of our clothes in just one bag
(such is my resolve I have emboldened it).

I do the same thing EVERY TIME we go - taking too many clothes, half of which come back unused. I seem to pack with some sort of camping magazine shoot in mind (clean and pressed children playing nicely on a picnic rug) and for some reason block out that within 5 mins of arriving on site not only will one child have grass stains but more importantly no one will really notice or care.

Take less stuff! Resist the Tent Wardrobe 3rdnparty!

Slubber - I left my pants out when I had my smear, as you requested!

Sorry for the hijack.

I hate having nowhere for clothes when camping.

WowOoo · 08/06/2010 13:26

See through bags!

You can write DIRTY/BOB/MUM whatever on scrap of paper and shove that in if that helps too.

Mine are strong, tiable or sealable and from abroad unfortunately, but you know what I mean. normal cariers will do - morrisons are pretty see through.

Songbird · 08/06/2010 13:31

We have a Berhaus Mule which everything goes in. Big end pockets for dirties (or seperate placky bag). Not sure if the one in the link is the size we have, I think ours might be bigger, it is a bit of a monster.

WowOoo · 08/06/2010 16:43

Oh my bags go in a big backpack. I've got bags in my bags of bags

Don't want to be staring at the dirty clothes...save that depressing scene for when we get home.

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/06/2010 16:45

We keep ours in a suitcase in the back of the car, but then we are camping puffs.

ebayaddict · 08/06/2010 16:50

If we're camping for a week or so I grab 4 of the fruit crates / banana boxes from the supermarket when we arrive and do our shop. The clothes get laid out in them (or at least the fiddly pants / socks bit) and they stack on top of each other like a chest of drawers.

Just go into the recycling at the end of the hols or if we have room we bring them back for the dc's to make into boats / dens.

WowOoo · 08/06/2010 17:55

ebayaddict that's a great idea. Still like my waterproof bags, just in case of rain and mud and helpful boys who drop stuff.

Shows you 3rd that you really don't need to buy any more gear?!

Smithagain · 08/06/2010 18:38

Two holdalls of clothes, which fit in the gap between the edge of DH's sleeping bag and the inner tent. Clean clothes stay in there till needed.

Dirty clothes get slung in a bag-for-life in a corner of the living area. And I have inherited my mum's collection of hand sewn drawstring bags made from various scary 1970s pieces of fabric. The same ones that I poured scorn on as an embarrassed teenager and now discover are quite handy for keeping dirty pants separate from stuff that might possibly be worn again if we get too desperate/muddy!

We also have one of those collapsible hanging rails that you slot together from poles. Coats and towels get hung from that. But we have a very tall tent LOL!

PandaG · 08/06/2010 18:45

we have plastic chests of drawers taht are usually used for storing lego etc in DC's bedrooms.

We pack clothes into the drawers and shove back into the unit - means fleeces and the like compress well and take up less space in the car, and is a handy unit in the tent.

Also have holdalls for me and DH, during the week one becomes laundry bag, generally with wsahing sorted into coloured loads inside the bag!

3rdnparty · 09/06/2010 08:50

ebay thats a great idea, i shall try that on our next tip ....although i do love buying camping stuff but dh mutters 'getting transit van next time' every time he has to pack the car! although did get compression bag which worked fantastically for all fleeces and warm stuff by squishing into 1 bag! thanks all

We use those collapsing crates for clothes and then we use them for other stuff when we pack the car.

Wiggletastic · 11/06/2010 20:41

Clothes stay in a large zip-up holdall in the corner of the tent while clean and then all dirty stuff goes in a pop-up clothes basket in one of the bedroom pods until it is all put back in the holdall to go home. A wardrobe is a camping gadget too far IMO...

Oblomov · 11/06/2010 21:06

in our caravan, the wardrobe has no shelfs. i had 4 tesco's/sainsbury's re-cycling bags in the wardrobe. pull one out, get boxers, shorts etc for ds's. next. worked just about o.k.

am interested in these ikea/see-through bags, etc that other have mentioned. links please ?

CrankyTwanky · 11/06/2010 22:49

Colapsable crates!
Great idea!

I was going to take a trunk!

melrose · 16/06/2010 12:56

I bought some big zip up laundry style bags from John Lewis, pack all our clothes in 2 of them (they are huge but fit nicely in the footwell, under the ds feet, but they ae small and still in car seats) Take 3 extra bags folded inside, then when we arrive seperate clothes out so we have one big bag each, with plenty of room in for rummaging araound and an extra for dirties. Means everything stays dry and contained, and they stand quite neatly in the corner.

melrose · 16/06/2010 13:03

like this

SixtyFootDoll · 20/06/2010 22:18

Melrose - great idea.
Will steal that one.

RiverOfSleep · 22/06/2010 13:27

We take a clothes rail which goes in the spare bedroom pod thingy. Iron before we go away then lay clothes flat on parcel shelf, hang up when we get there.
