Camping with a (long) toddler

Hi

I was just wondering how people made sure their toddlers were warm when camping??

DS is 18 months and already taller than 80cm so too big for the Vango Nitestar sleeping bag. I've read people saying they use ready beds - do you mean the normal 'sleepover' type readybeds or specific camping ones? So confused!!

Thanks

DD has slept on a ready bed in a sleeping bag since she first went camping at 16 months old. We just use the "normal" ones - I also make sure she has plenty of layers on.

i use normal ready beds. i have also kept ds in a sleep suit under his clothes during the day, and 2 at night so he didnt get too cold.

whow about using a grow bag (and blanket) if ur concerned aabout using a bigger sleeping bag?

Am I missing something? Why not buy him a bigger sleeping bag?

We took ds camping from 18 months, and use a child sized sleeping bag (which is only slightly smaller than adult) on top of a Wee Airic self inflatable mat. I tuck a blanket under the sides to stop him rolling off.

Self inflating mats provide better insulation against the cold from the ground, but ready beds better to stop them rolling around - which is why I tuck him in with the blanket.

In all honesty, if I had to buy him a sleeping bag now, I'd just buy an adult one, as you can get higher rating bags in those. If you're worried about him sliding down, just tie the bottom closed with a piece of string.

DD 19 months is still in her travel cot with lambskin under the sheet and wearing a 2.5 tog grobag with long sleeve vest and long pjs underneath - she is toasty!

ds2 goes in a thick grobag and then in the top of an ordinary sleeping bag (at his insistence, he has to be like ds1). During the night he gradually exits the bigger bag and ends up curled up against my back in a small cosy heap, clutching his teddy. In the morning DH, Ds1 and I are awake before 6 and ds2 sleeps in peacefully...
