use the crate at night... don't be tempted to let her zip in with you

have fun!

RTKangaMummy · 20/05/2010 20:22

blimey there is no way she is coming in our rooms she will chew the airbeds

She will have her crate in the communal area

She goes in it during the day as well as night at home so she she should be happy when we are there

don't be tempted to tie her to one of your chairs - she will still chase rabbits, with it trailing behind her. we bang several tent pegs through a lead handle and use that to tie dog up outside. at night she was surprisingly well behaved despite sheep and rabbits all around.

Awww! I'd love to sleep in a tent with my dog, all warm and snorey.

Raksha · 20/05/2010 21:23

and lying on top of you-ey.

it always sounds like a good idea, but is horrific on an air bed...

Keep your food safe

we are facing the same thing in Aug with a 4 month old Lab good luck

duckyfuzz · 21/05/2010 19:39

having done it, the best advice I can offer is not to

Drusilla · 21/05/2010 19:46

dru - buy a crate/ cage. seriously. how on earth are you going to sleep without knowing whether he's 8 fields away chasing bunnies?

my youngest lab has just eaten an entire tray of defrosting triple chocolate muffins. they are both far too fat to be allowed to sleep with me.

IMoveTheStars · 21/05/2010 20:21

one of those things that screw into the ground to attach a lead to, and a very very secure lead

duckyfuzz · 21/05/2010 20:24

we put ours in the boot overnight, she chewed through the cables, plastic mouldings etc - but at least we knew where she was! No way would I have had her in the tent, we'd haev ended up under the stars

TerritorialMosquito · 21/05/2010 20:25

crate. for everyone's safety, lol.

duckyfuzz · 21/05/2010 20:28

we had no room for a crate, but perhaps camping with 18 month old twins and a lab puppy wasn't our best ever plan, on Arran too

Raksha · 21/05/2010 20:31

i took a 2yo and a 10mo camping on my own with our munsterlander (who was on the 'loopy' end of the red setter spectrum).

it wasn't my finest moment, but i think the dcs enjoyed it... we might as well have been on arran, i think.

duckyfuzz · 21/05/2010 20:33

lol raksha, DTs had a fab time too, I think I spent most of the time shaking my head and rollign my eyes

mzmum · 21/05/2010 21:57

Just don't let any friends think it's funny to throw something for your lab which is further away than the length of the rope it's attached to on the stake thing..............
I'm still furious at him now...... poor thing almost strangled herself & her back looked like it bent in two, it almost made me sick. Grrrrrrrr.
Ours was about 18 months so less puppyish but we let her sleep in the tent "lounge" area on her lead which was attached to part of the tent. She was good as gold.

Drusilla · 21/05/2010 22:35

I can't put him in a crate - he's never been in one! I was just going to tether him.(hopeful emoticon) He's a real velcro dog tho, gets terrified if he can't see us

oh god. I might just zip him in with DS (5), it would make DS's day if I did that

RTKangaMummy · 23/05/2010 14:00

Well we are home ~ we have had 2 nights/3 days near the river Thames and the puppy was really really well behaved

She slept in her crate in the living room area

As our tent has a huge porch area we could sit under it and have some shade

We got one of these {and fixed it just outside the door so she could be in or out ~ it is really strong - it has a steel wire inside - it is really deffo brill

She didn't eat anything apart from trying to get our shoes

We had one of those screw in thingies.
Bob (now 18 months) managed to break it last summer, he was about 8 months ish old.
We've since got another resuce lab.

We're using the tow bar on the car to tether them during the day, think it'll be strong enough?
