Hi all,

Wanting to go to South of France for about ten nights from 25th Aug. My kids don't go back to school until 9/9 so I can make the most of cheaper prices!

I've narrowed it down to Cote D'Azur, at either Pachacaid, (Canadel) or La Baume (Frejus).

Or: La Sirene, (Argeles Sur Mer) in the Languedoc et Rousillon area.

I've been to La Sirene before, but not for years. I remember the site as being very nice but the immediate area as a bit bland/downmarket, unless you go out and about to Collieure, etc.

I've heard that Frejus/Nice area is beautiful and I'd like to try it. But I'm concerned that:

a) even the tail end of August will still be hideously busy

b) these very popular sites suffer from having less than great accommodation - lots of reviews say the emplacements are dust/gravel and very cramped, and the mobile homes are a bit old and dirty. And La Baume suffers from traffic noise whilst Pachacaid is on a really dangerous mountain road!

c) Pachacaid is perhaps a bit remote if you want to eat out anywhere but on site, (any nice towns nearby??) and they charge per day for sunloungers, which seems a bit off. Also unnecessarily strict anti-fun pool rules (actually I've heard that about La Baume as well, whereas La Sirene seems a bit more laid back)

So I need choose between a prettier, classier location (Cote D'Azur) and a lovely well-kept site and better accommadation in a duller area.

I'm going with a 15 yo and an 11 yo, and the holiday is principaaly for them. Whilst I don't want it to be horrendously busy, I do hope there are still enough kids around that late in the season to keep them company. I want lots of teenagers, but preferably not chavvy horrid troublesome ones (like we encoutered in Salou the year before!. Anyone had any experience of going that late? What do you think?

Many thanks!

Praries de la mer, it is at Port Grimaud, right next to St Tropez. Can walk to a nice beech, camp site is very nice, lots of facilities. All the trappings of StTropez without the cost. The surrounding area is really classy and not trashy, it is a bit tinsle town because of StTropez, can do a bit of celeb spotting. there is Nice,Cannes and Monaco all nearbye. and erm wotisit begins with A oh yes Antibes near by too. Its an hour from Nice airport.

Villages Prairies was my first thought too when i read the Op, but the company has 3 round the bay of St Tropez. It is lovely. We spent a week at Kontiki.

Why don't you try Pierre et Vacance at either Parc de Grimaud or at Les Restanques. Bothe are in the vicinity and offer excellent facilities for young families. They are not too much more pricy than the mobile homes.

tail end of August things quieten down in France - have always found it a good tinme to go and relatively cheaper than the rest if August.

also recommend Pierre et Vacance - Les restanques .

Hi
Stayed in Les Restanques and struggled to get off site because of traffic (in September). It was very good accomodation & lovely pools but found the onsite shop & restaurant very pricey.

We will be heading to Castellane, inland Provence, for the last two weeks in August. Looks to be a big hiking & canoeing centre. It is a bit remote but the site is within walking distance of the nearby town which looks to be scenic & holiday which is a nice combination.
