When does camping become glamping?

What's the cut-off point, the Point Of No Return?

And does it have to involve Cath Kidson?

not sure but I think my sister taking siberian goosedown duvets and jo malone candles has to add a certain glam to the experience!

when you are remotely comfortable

not really

Perhaps when we try a little bit too hard to make it look pretty? (Guiltily hiding under mountains of glamped up 'sensible' equipment as I await the bell tent!!)

When you book a week at Featherdown Farms.

I can do both, but I am straying ever more quickly into the glamping arena. I have bunting, rugs, nice cutlery and wine glasses and plates, a fridge and this year a bell tent!!

BUT

It is a cheap holiday even with all the kit. Over the past 5 years we have spent loads of gear - 2 AMAZING tents, Fridge, Airmats, Camp cookers etc etc But id I added up the cost of all the gear I reacon we have spent what a lot of people spend on a fornight in the sun one year. If we average out what we spnd on kit and how long it lasts I add about £100 to the cost of the pitch for a week. We go camping a lot, so far twice this year and we have at least 2 more trips booked, maydo another week somewhere, so for 2 long weekends and 2 weeks hlidays (bar the gear) we will spend about £400.

We can't be bothered with france this year - too pricey, so I am happy glamping.

Nah Laurie, that can't be right. I used to go camping (albeit in a rather warmer country!) without a tent, with only the water you could carry, and a small pick to dig a latrine. I was perfectly comfortable! I was also rather a lot younger, but let's gloss over that.

Bunting, Jo Malone, yep. I think that's probably it. It's the look of the thing: have as many accessories as you like or can fit into the roofbox, as long as they have an actual use.

In which case, even with the 3-4tonnes of kit we bring along for a 'minimalist' lightweight sort of holiday, we have not yet become Glampers.

But I dunno...bunting...it appeals to me...
