Cambridge Folk Festival

Tickets for non-Cambridge City residents go on sale on Sunday! So who's hoping to go this year? I have been hoping to go for several years but other things have got in the way. This year we thought we were going to be out of the country but in fact we will be around, hooray.

And if I go on my own with ds2 (6yo but emotionally and behaviourally much younger ) which is the best campsite? I like the idea of being in the middle of the action and not having to drag him back on a bus at the end of the day, but then again I would quite like to get a bit of sleep at some point (or is that too much to hope for? )

We went last year with DS1 (8) and DS2 (6) - we stayed in the family campsite where you get the bus.

Being in the centre of action looked good as there was a playground and swimming pool. If we were going this year then that is where we would have headed. No idea of noise levels as the latest we stayed out was about 10pm and the quiet campsite was no problem. We didn't mind the bus and the boys quite liked being on top of the bus.

We were intending to go this year but hubby is playing golf and not quite brave enough on my own! We are heading south later in the year to Beautiful Days festival

Thanks for the feedback, moid. Sounds like Cherry Hinton camping would be good then.

Dp is not into folk or even festivals and I am not yet sure if I am brave enough to go on my own - but if I do, am definitely only taking ds2 as more than that would be too much to manage.

Beautiful Days looks good - great to see it won an award for the kids area - and cheaper than Cambridge, too. Might rethink my plans.

Music doesn't tend to end too late (we're 2 miles from Cherry Hinton Hall and can hear from the house!) As Moid mentioned on site there is quite a good park, a paddling pool and a river where you can feed the ducks. Within walking distance (5 mins) is the High Street which has a laundrette, Tesco Local, bank, bakers, bookmakers, etc so you really do have everything you need locally. Hope that helps.

I'm going to Cambridge folk festival with the kids this year too. Sounds like a good one for families. Which other family festivals would you recommend? We go to Wychwood festival every year, which has loads to do for families with small kids and is really easy to get around the site with push chairs etc.

Thinking about it still - not cheap.
