How do I cook?

Or maybe not how but what?

We're going camping here so the main things we need are provided, I think.

What do you cook when you go camping?

DH will definately want to BBQ but not everyday (actually, he would, I won't!).

I'm not a complete camping novice, I did a season with Eurocamp whilst at Uni but that was 10 years ago and my tent had a kitchen.

I usually make up then freeze a couple of meals - curry/spag bol as rice/pasta very quick to cook. Then BBQ's/tortilla wraps with steak/chicken and fish/couscous very quick to cook if you can get to shops

why don't you want a BBQ everyday? you can cook all sorts of things on it - new potatoes (pre boiled) garlic and rosemary in double layer of foil; salmon in foil parcels with slug of white wine or giant mushrooms - doesn't all have to have bbq flavour. omlette or a tinned chicken curry from sainsburys are 2 favs of ours on cooker. or pasta with stir in sauce and things added ontop eg boiled egg, cold meat, cheese

Oh thanks for the replies. I guess I was thinking BBQ will mean lots of burnt meat. I hadn't thought of cooking anything like that , thanks dreaming. They sound lovely!

Do you have to shop every day when camping then? It kind of defeats the getting-away-from-it-all feel if Im in Sainsburys every day.

I'm probably worrying over nothing aren't I?

Sorry I meant to say yours sound lovely too crispy - couscous is a fab idea! I'll definately take a pack of that too.

how long are you going for?

I do various things, specially on the campfire, baked camembert (duble wrapped in foil, glices of garlic and herbs) Couscous with fish - take a frying pan and do pan fried anything.

Take a cool box and prep stuff before you go, you can keep stuff for a couple of days.

Planning is the key, we do some cans/packets and add fresh meat/fish bought from farm shops or whatever I don't DO supermarkets when camping

We're going for 5 days so I guess stuff in a cool box should work. I can't seem to get my around life without a fridge or 4 ring hob.

I can always take some herbs, garlic & foil with us. It sounds like they'll be handy. Some couscous, maybe some tinned things.

Or just let dh BBQ every day!

second the freezing meals - we take a batch of chilli for the first night, and something like frozen sausages for the second, purely because they are excellent cool packs and will keep the cool box very cold all the way down in the car (keep the beer cold too )

LOVING the baked camembert idea though, thanks Crunchie [pinches idea]

Failing that, there's always slop & fry

boak.

Oh my god - look at the salt per serving!!

I think I'll give that one a miss thanks JTGK!
