We are going to Ty Nadan with Eurocamp in 3 weeks. I have recently come across some other reviews which says it is very cold, especially at night.

Our dd is 4 and we know that she can't do any of the organised activities but she is looking forward to the swimming pools, cycling and playground.

Has anyone been there recently and can let me know how they found it, as am a bit worried about some of the reviews I read about washing facilities and playground?

Please let me know either way how you found it!
Could always change site last minute if bad booking decision

Thanks.

Hi, I'd be interested on how you got on when you return as I've been considering this site for late summer but wasn't sure if all the activities were more suited to teenagers and might be wasted on my 6 and 8 yr old. I'm also considering pont st gilles.

We went there for the 2nd time for last year, previously went 4 years ago. We took our own motorhome this time (last time stayed in our own caravan), the Eurocamp vans/chalets all ten to be in one main area of the site up at the top of the hill. The swimming pools are nice, especially the indoor heated one, although quite deep so make sure you have arm bands or floatation aid of some some available for your dd especially if she isn't a strong swimmer. The play areas are nice, there is 2 or 3 of them. The best toilet block is the newer one to the left of the main entrance & closer to the eurocamp area . Great for cycling, the roads are tarmac with a bit of loose gravel in places so watch out especially on corners & some of the slopes. The river that flows through the site is great for paddling in, although cold, it is clear & there is a beach area plus bits where there are rockpools. There are some good places to visit around the area & worth finding out about. Eurocamp has its own reception area & staff, but the main reception staff are really friendly and speak good english. Localish places to visit include Quimper, Pont Aven, Quimperle & Le Poul Fetan (which is an outdoor museum in an old village, although the displays are written in french it is a lovely place to visit.)

Thanks so much for that..you have put my mind at ease!

One of the things I read was that bizarrely the toilets were open for all to see. Can't really believe they had no doors on them so any ideas what the reviews are talking about? Slightly concerns me but trying to persuade myself that reviews must have been written by privacy freaks.

We are camping so kind off depending on their toilet blocks!

We are going in late July, so I'm hoping it won't be too cold then, although it could well be raining!

We know the coastal area there well as we have been many times to Raguennes-Plage, but thought we might try something different as our DC are 9+ and keen for adventure!

Thanks for the tip on the toilet blocks - I wonder if I can specify where we want to camp? We have a huuuge tent, so any tips on where the best pitches are?

badgerhead · 06/05/2010 22:57

The kids toilet doors are a little bit smaller in the newer block & possibly a bit more visible but don't really find it an issue.
If you are camping with Eurocamp then your tent is likely to be at the other end of the site with the older toilet blocks. These are fine for using the toilets but it is worth going to the newer block for showers as they are much more child/user friendly.

BTM you will be unlikely to specify which pitch you want when you arrive, I would suggest contacting them in advance & warning them about the size of your tent as their pitch sizes do vary. The best pitches IMO are at the left hand side of the entrance & down near the river, but they are mostly ok elsewhere.
Have you looked on the Ty Nadan website as that gives you a lot of info about their activities.
In July it is likely to be full and the entertainments programme is given out each week. There is a small takeaway on site which you can order food from in advance (worth doing when busy) otherwise you wait for a long time as it is all cooked to order.
The high ropes trail is good for an adventurous activity but take care on it. We saw a man come down the long zip wire & not brake quick enough at the end, hit the tree platform wrong & break his ankle! Although I will say the staff reacted very well & got him down expertly but then expected his wife to take him to hospital.

Thanks badger!

I think I specified the size of our tent on booking, but I might give them another call. Which do you think is nicer - on the left of the entrance or by the river?

Do you think we should book activities ahead of arriving there? Can you do that?

Any other useful tips?

We had zip-wires on the site we went to last summer, so hopefully we will know how not to do it!

The best sites for levelness are near the river, busy in the middle, quieter to the left, & some of those pitches are larger.
I don't think you can book activities in advance, but need to as soon as the weekly activity sheet comes out on the Saturday morning.
Take a bowl to do washing up in, there are no plugs in the sinks.
If you have EHU I think all the pitches are the standard blue plug, but might not bee, so take an adaptor & polarity tester just in case.
It's worth spreading the activities out over your holiday as some of the timings clash & they also get booked up quickly. If you want to do the quad biking a hefty deposit is require now (IIRC about 200 euros per person)
My family have generally found all the staff very helpful & english is usually very good.
The site is used by quite a variety of nationalities. The manager of the on site shop I think is English. Their fresh bread, croissants & pain au chocolat are delicious and the shop stocks quite a good range of food & other bits including Camping Gaz, inflatable dinghies to use on the river, arm band etc.
The nearest big supermarkets are in Quimperle & are fairly easy to find.
Please ask if there is anything else you want to know.

Thanks badger, that's fab - I might give them a ring!
