Have narrowed it down now I think, though if you have seen something you think might be suitable let me know

Needs:
at least 2000 waterproof rating
3 or 4 man
bedroom pod and small living area to cook and sit in if raining
easy to pitch as pitching alone
prefer tunnel style but not a must

Vango Beta 350

Vango Beta 450 tempted by it being slightly bigger

Coleman Coastline 3plus

All thoughts and suggestions appreciated, sold my big old tent and want to get a new one ordered before the money set aside for it disappears.

Apart from my feelings on cooking in tents there are some excellent tents out there

2000 isn't a very high HH: I would suggest a minimum of 3000 tbh for UK camoping (we stick to that and never yet ahd a leak). What's your budget please? Went to tent display yesterday, were some corkers

aSilverLining · 03/05/2010 09:52

I would prefer finding a suitable tent that is also 3000HH but so far have had no luck. My budget can be tweaked either way. Sold my last tent for £120 so have that to spend, could add to it but would prefer not to really! Tent is for me and DS, for long weekends, mid week camping in summer hols, etc.

Would only cook in tent if pouring it down and would be very very cautious, don't worry!

Wish they had a tent show near me, far better to see them pitched isn't it. Been in our local huge tent shop but most of the tents in there were too big or far too small no mid sized ones.

Would you coonsider 2nd hand? personally I prefer top notch second but am sure I can find you summat new if needed

SanctiMoanyArse · 03/05/2010 10:25

here

consider coastline and boston? Icarus also good

aSilverLining · 03/05/2010 10:34

Why have I not considered 2nd hand before now?? Bit dim of me really seen as I have just sold my old vango tigris and practically had my hand bitten off for it!

Yes I would conisder 2nd hand as like you say, may be able to get a better quality tent for my money.

Have to pop out but Outwell have some lovelies like this?

GardenPath · 04/05/2010 02:43

Get a pop-up! They're marvelous. Quechua are very, very good.

Completely rain, storm and weatherproof and very sturdy and robust. All sorts of sizes, from 1-man to huge family but a breeze to put up and put down (once you have the knack), literally 2 seconds to get up - just unzip it, stand back and let 'er go and you have your tent - and minutes to put down.

We have a couple of 2-man Quechua's (as spares for Ds and mates to go with campervan) and I've just bought a pop-up 'base' living area for the tents to fit into.

Can't praise them enough - such a brilliantly simple idea - wish I'd thought of it.

Slubberdegullion · 04/05/2010 12:44

I'd go for a pop up (quechua or outwell both are good) and then an additional tarp for cooking under/sitting out under if it is wet or very sunny.

I'd much rather cook away from my tent than risk a fire or gas leak with the doors all zipped up.
There is something quite lovely about sitting under a tarp as well, you get a 360 view of the scenery for a start, and you also can achieve a little frisson of being slighty Scott of the Antarctic (ie brave and outdoorsy, not freezing to deathsy).

Pop up takes less than 5 mins to pitch properly, tarp takes about the same, and you can take your tarp down to the beach too.

Thanks for ideas, I do like the look of some of the pop ups and the ease of piching. Do sites charge for having a seperate tarp? Have never had a seperate area pitched but SIL takes a gazebo as her 'kitchen' and some sites charge her for this.... probably don't for just a simple tarp though???

We are downsizing and waiting for This beauty to come back into stock.

5000 HH! Fab reviews on all sites I have found, and 15-20 mins pitching.

(We currently have a 12man monster, that I love but when not going with kids / sharing / it is a bit daft)
